How to Apply - Incoming Freshman
- Complete the online application yourself. It may be easier for you if your mom or dad fills out the application, but their answers on your behalf won't be as accurate as your own answers. This information is used to pair you up with a roommate, so we want the information to be filled out by you and we want you to be honest!
- Complete your roommate profile. What kind of roommate you would like to live with
is as important as the kind of roommate you would not. Provide any information that
may affect your room and/or roommate assignment. Everyone comes from a different background.
Skipping something you think may not be important may have a big impact on our matching
process. For example:
- Sleep preference: What time you get up or go to sleep will be very important at 6 a.m. when you aren’t expecting your roommate's alarm to go off!
- Music styles: Country/western? Classical? Rap? We have learned that some music styles are a love-hate relationship, and we try not to mix the two.
- Organization: Have you heard of The Odd Couple? One slob and one neat freak just doesn't
work well in a dorm room, so please let us know if you are organized or not.
Read everything. Don't go through the application so fast that you miss some important information. Take time to READ each section, including the instructions on each page. - Read the Housing Agreement. It is information you NEED to know. We know it looks long and boring, but each piece of information is something you will need to know—NOW or LATER!
- Pay your $100 non-refundable housing reservation fee. Instructions on how to pay the fee are given on the housing application.
- Still have questions? Contact our office. Call us at (951) 552-8111 or email us at housingservices@calbaptist.edu if you have any questions. We are here to help! Our office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- WAIT! We know you’re eager to select your room, but our Student Accounts team needs time to process and confirm your payments with our office.
- After your payment is processed and confirmed, make your way back into your housing application and navigate to the “Applications” tab.
- You’ll be able to see all the available units with empty bed spaces for you to select.
- Some important info to make your selection process easier:
- Freshman selection is first-come first-served; that means if you really want to be in a specific living area, finish your housing application and pay your fee as soon as possible!
- If you aren’t seeing any units for a living area, all our available bed spaces in that area are full. Even if you don’t see your first choice, we STRONGLY advise you to select your second or third option to confirm your booking.
- You can always revisit your housing application and navigate back to the “Room Change” page to check if any spaces have become available.
- Have friends? While we don’t create roommate groups for Freshmen, you can always plan to select a unit with multiple empty spaces at the same time to ensure you get in the same unit.
- After making a selection, you can expect to receive emails from housingservices@calbaptist.edu confirming your booking and providing important information about Check-In.
- As your Check-In approaches, please confirm your booking date and room assignment prior to moving in.
How to Apply - Returning Students & Transfers
- Find the next academic year's housing application on the Housing Portal. You’ll find it on the “Applications” tab.
- If you’re returning, be sure to review your roommate profile and make any necessary updates, as it’s likely some of your tastes have changed. If you’re an incoming transfer, please complete your roommate profile in full to find your best match!
- Read everything. We know you’ve likely seen this information before, but our policies and procedures are subject to change from year to year. Take the time to READ each section, including the instructions on each page.
- Read the housing agreement. It is information you NEED to know and gets updated every year. We want you to have the best possible experience!
- Pay your $100 non-refundable housing reservation fee. Instructions on how to pay the fee are given on the housing application.

- Upperclassmen at CBU can choose their housing either as an individual or as part of
a roommate group.
- Living with friends? You can form a roommate group through the Housing Portal!
- How It Works:
- Go to the Roommate Groups page of your Housing Application.
- One student creates the group and becomes the Group Leader.
- The Group Leader picks a CBU-appropriate group name and password.
- Share the name and password with each person you want to join.
- Maximum group size: 6 students (including the leader).
- Other students with completed housing applications can join the group before the mid-March deadline.
- Choosing as an Individual
- Once your housing application is complete, you’ll be assigned a timeslot—this is the date and time you can log back into the Housing Portal and select from available beds.
- Timeslots are emailed in early March.
- Individual selection happens after roommate groups have finished choosing, so group housing is prioritized.
- Timeslots for Groups:
- Each member will still receive an individual timeslot in early March.
- The Group Leader’s timeslot becomes the official selection time for the whole group.
- The Group Leader is the only one who selects housing for the group. (Tip: It’s best if the student with the earliest timeslot serves as Group Leader.)
- Group Leaders can transfer leadership to another member if needed.
- How It Works:
- Important Reminders:
- All students must have a completed housing application to join or create a group.
- Once the Group Leader selects a unit, all group members are placed into that housing assignment.
- If you don’t join a group by the deadline, you’ll select as an individual at your timeslot.
- Talk with your group ahead of time about your preferred living areas. Having a backup plan makes the process smoother in case your first choice fills up!
- Living with friends? You can form a roommate group through the Housing Portal!
- Graduate Housing Placement
- Due to the wide variety of timelines for Graduate Studies, graduate students with a completed Housing Application can expect to be assigned to a bed. Graduates can expect a private bedroom in a shared residence with up to 3 other roommates.
