About
Mission
California Baptist University's Center for Creativity and Christian Witness is dedicated to illuminating the intersection of creative practice and gospel witness in contemporary culture. The Center brings together scholars, creative practitioners, and CBU students to develop and propagate cutting-edge thinking on:
- How Christianity provides a foundation for a flourishing creative person, process, product, and purpose.
- How contemporary culture influences current thinking about creative practice.
- How a Christian creative can commend the gospel as plausible and desirable in contemporary culture through their creative person, process, or product.
Initiatives
The Center for Creativity and Christian Witness provides a variety of venues for students and scholars alike to ask not only WHY creative practice matters to gospel witness but to deeply explore HOW creative practice can specifically serve as a gospel witness through consideration of the creative person, process, product, and product.
Key initiatives include:
FELLOWSHIP OF FAITHFUL CREATIVES: The Fellowship is a 2-year cohort educational opportunity for creative students to explore their creative practice in light of Christian thinking and the call to Christian witness.
ACADEMIC COURSES: The Center hosts academic courses illuminating the intersection of creative practice and gospel witness.
VISITING SCHOLARS: The College of Architecture, Visual Arts, and Design at CBU annually hosts semester and year-long visiting scholars, allowing scholars to further their scholarly work while sharing cutting-edge thinking with students and faculty at CBU.
ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS: Roundtable Discussions bring together key thinkers and scholars working at the intersection of creative practice and gospel witness for unrecorded discussions to sharpen participants' thinking.
EMAIL LIST-SERVE: The email list-serve is a free monthly email that distributes contemporary publications, lectures, and notable items within the Center's focus. If you would like to sign up for the email, please do so here:
