Program Details

Consistent with the university student outcomes, upon completion of the Bachelor of Arts in Sociology degree, graduates will be able to:

  1. Explain the classical, contemporary, gender and postmodern theoretical frameworks and core concepts of sociology.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of multiple key substantive areas within the field of sociology including marriage and family, social problems, deviant behavior, and group dynamics.
  3. Demonstrate intercultural knowledge and competence including cultural self-awareness, cultural difference, and respectful communication in cross-cultural settings.
  4. Express the concepts and theories in sociology using excellent written and editing skills following style and guideline requirements; combining and synthesizing thoughts and ideas with clarity and fluency.
  5. Express the concepts and theories in sociology using oral presentation skills with clarity, professional demeanor and dress, combining and synthesizing existing ideas to formulate convincing ideas and/or arguments.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of the ethical issues in a variety of social contexts including a biblical worldview.
  7. Evaluate several research methodologies including both qualitative and quantitative research designs, the different types of data collection and analysis.

SOC 301: Self and Society

Self and society seeks to answer the process questions concerning the ways and the reasons social forces affect social outcomes, often by affecting the thinking and action of individuals in society.

SOC 338: Group Dynamics and Social Movements

The course addresses the sociological and social psychology dimensions of group behavior, the influences on the socialization of the individual, social interaction and impacts on patterned roles and authority structures.

SOC 381: Social Theory

This course introduces classical and contemporary sociological theories to examine the fundamental forces that influence human interactions in daily living.
