Frequently Asked Questions

A maximum of 100 semester units may be accepted in transfer toward fulfilling bachelor degree requirements. Within these 100 units, the following restrictions apply:

  • No more than 30 upper division units may be transferred.
  • No more than 90 lower division units may be transferred.
  • A maximum of 30 semester units is allowable from examinations (AP, CLEP, DANTES, IB)
  • A maximum of 18 units may be accepted in transfer at the lower division level for college transcript completion of a Basic Peace Officer Standards Training (POST certificate).
  • Only coursework completed with a grade of C- or better will be accepted in transfer.
  • All bachelor programs at CBU require a minimum of 36 residency units; 30 of which must be upper division.

All we need is completion of a free application and official electronic or paper transcripts from all previous colleges and/or universities. Once received, you can expect an admissions decision and full transfer work breakdown in less than 3 business days. The average turnaround time is 1 business day. A personal Admissions Counselor will assist with all steps and meet to discuss the results and degree completion outlook.

The length of completion will depend highly on previous college work and the pace of attendance. Most online majors can be completed in 16-18 months if attended full time and all general education and elective work is completed by prior coursework.

We do not require that you have any specific courses or an associate’s degree completed in order to transfer. Only a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent are required to apply.

Generally, previous college work will not expire and be eligible to transfer to CBU regardless of how long ago the work was completed. Some subjects may have standards or content that updates throughout time so those will be evaluated on if they will meet a specific class requirement or come in as elective credit. Either way, the course is still considered transferable to CBU if it meets all other transfer requirements.

Individuals transferring to CBU with an associate's degree and either an IGETC or CSU General Education Breadth Certification prior to transfer are waived from general education requirements, with the exception of the biblical and theological core and English composition (ENG 113 & 123) courses.

Students with an approved associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution outside of California or who have completed a CBU approved Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) prior to transferring are waived from general education requirements with the exception of the biblical and theological core.

Upon acceptance to the university, your transcripts will be officially evaluated by the Registrar’s office. In the meantime, helpful resources such as our Transfer Agreements, Transferology and TES are available online for your convenience.
