Hall of Fame

If it existed, Joseph “Joey” Moorman would be the first head to appear on the CBU men’s water polo Mount Rushmore. His four years at CBU resulted in three NCAA All-American honors, two WWPA All-Conference first team goalkeeper awards, two WWPA All-Tournament honors, and a CoSIDA Academica All-American nod. He remains on top of the Lancer all-time record book with a seemingly untouchable record of 1,914 career saves, nearly 800 more than second place. He also owns three of the four highest single-season save totals, including the highest single-season total in CBU history with 430 stops in 2016. Moorman ranks in the top-five of every major statistical category for goalkeepers in both career and single-season lists, and truly showed off in 2014 by leading the team in steals that season with 65.

Joseph’s favorite memory was beating UCI 9-8 his senior year. UCI was ranked #8 in the nation and were the highest ranked Division I team CBU had ever defeated at that time. Joseph currently works for the CBU Undergraduate Admissions Office. He credits both Coach Kevin Rosa and Coach Rick Rowland for pushing him to be the utilize the best of his abilities not only athletically but also spiritually.

In recognition of outstanding achievements as a Lancer Student Athlete, Joseph Moorman is being inducted into the CBU Athletics Hall of Fame.

CBU softball has a long history of great pitching and Tory Ferreira is among the best of the best in that category. Ferreira played for the Lancers for four years and remains in the top-five of most CBU pitching records. Ferreira boasted a career ERA of one-point-one-nine while allowing opposing hitters just a one-ninety-seven batting average. She was named the GSAC and NAIA Pitcher of the Year in 2009 as she led CBU to the NAIA softball national championship. Her success continued through the NCAA transition, earning First Team All-PacWest Honors in the Lancers’ inaugural season at the Division II level.

Tory remembers that great feeling of seeing a game ball in her cubby before a game, as that meant she would be starting. She worked hard to keep that game ball there each week. Tori lives in Rancho Cucamonga with her husband, Chris Velasquez, and their two children, Ben and Gabby. Tori works as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

In recognition of outstanding achievements as a Lancer Student Athlete, Tory Ferreira is being inducted into the CBU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Josh Hanson is one of the most highly decorated Lancer athletes in department history. Josh earned All-American status eight times at the Division II level and was a 16-time top-16 finisher at the Division II Championships, the most in program history. He was the RMAC Swimmer of the Year three-straight years while winning nine individual conference championships and adding to four more relay titles. His accolades weren’t limited to the pool, as Hanson was twice the RMAC Academic Athlete of the Year, and once earned the RMAC Summit Award. Josh remains the program record holder in the 200 backstroke and the 200 individual medley, and is still ranked in the top-10 in eight other races.

Josh’s favorite memory was winning the RMAC Conference Championship by the narrowest margin of 1 point. Josh currently lives in Tustin, CA and works for Irvine Novaquatics under legendary Olympic Coach, Dave Salo.

Lauren Hackett was a first-team All-American in 2017, a two-time third-team All-American, and was the NCAA Division Two Freshman of the Year in 2014. Lauren was also the Division Two West Region Player of the Year in 2017, a three-time first-team All-West Region selection, and the 2014 All West Region Freshman of the Year. In the PacWest, Lauren was the Player of the Year in 2017, the Freshman of the Year in 2014, a four-time First Team All PacWest selection, and the 2017 PacWest Scholar Athlete of the Year. Lauren is number one in the NCAA era in kills for CBU with one thousand six hundred and eighty-seven and helped lead the Lancers to a PacWest championships in 2017.

Lauren remembers fondly their team trips to Hawaii, their 20-0 PacWest championship season and beating BYU! Lauren now lives in Adelaide, Australia with her husband, CBU Men’s Basketball alum, Jordan Heading. She is in the process of obtaining her Masters in Counseling and plans to open her own private practice.

In recognition of outstanding achievements as a Lancer Student Athlete, Lauren Hackett is being inducted into the CBU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Andy Crowley was a four-year Lancer with numerous accolades in a CBU baseball jersey. The outfielder opened his career with an impressive freshman season, earning the PacWest Freshman of the Year award and was honored as an N-C-C-A-A All-American in 2012. Crowley was named the 2014 PacWest Player of the Year, the 2015 PacWest Defender of the Year, and is a 4-time N-C-Double-A Division Two All-West Region honoree.  Crowley holds a career three-forty-five batting average and has the second most at-bats in program history with 820; the outfielder played in 217 games, the third most in program history, and amassed 283 hits during his time as a Lancer, just two hits away from becoming the all-time leader. Impressively, Crowley transitioned into a pitcher for the Lancers during his senior year and ranks 13th in saves. 

One of Andy’s favorite memories as a Lancer was winning back to back conference and national championships. Andy lives in Oklahoma with his wife, Denise.

Zach’s 2013 season is in the running for one of the best single-seasons in any sport in CBU Athletics. In 2013 Esquerra was named the ABCA Division II, the NCCAA, and PacWest Player of the Year as well as the NAIA Tournament MVP and made the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team. He earned First Team All-PacWest three times. His two home runs in the final game of the regular secured the 2013 PacWest Championship for the Lancers in the final regular season game of the year. He was a two-time West Region Player of the Year and three-time conference All-Academic member. Zach finished second in the CBU record books in career home runs, fourth in triples, fifth in walks, ninth in RBI’s, and tenth in runs scored. After a stellar Lancer career, Zach was selected in the 24^th round in the 2013 MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Zach married his college sweetheart, Bernadette, and together have three children —Peyton, Harper, and Easton. Zach works for the Santa Ana Police Department as a K9 Handler for the Santa Ana K9 Unit and is also member of their SWAT Team. In 2018, he was selected as the Santa Ana Rotary Officer of the Year. Zach is an active member of the Grove Community Church. He is extremely grateful his time at CBU and is honored to be receiving this award.

Bernadette was the 2012 NCCAA Player of the Year and was a two-time NCCAA All-American. In 2012 she earned PacWest Player of the Year honors and made First Team All-West Region in 2013. Bernadette scored six game-winning goals during the 2012 season helping lead CBU women’s soccer to its first-ever NCCAA Championship Tournament appearance. She ranks sixth in all-time goals, ninth in career points, and third in shots.

Bernadette married her college sweetheart, Zach Esquerra. She is currently a full-time mom to their three children, Peyton (6), Harper (4) and Easton (2). Bernadette is an active member of the Grove Community Church where she serves as a women’s Bible study leader. She continues to find time to enjoy soccer by playing in adult leagues and watching her younger sister play here at CBU. Bernadette is grateful to be honored tonight and is thankful for all that CBU has done and continues to do for her and her family.

Vicente is an eleven-time NAIA All-American, six individual accolades and five relay efforts, which is the twelfth most in program history. He is also a four-time NAIA National Champion, once in the 100-yard backstroke and three times in the 200-yard back, which is tied for sixth all-time in program history. He helped CBU win its final NAIA Championship in 2009 before the transition to division two by winning the title in the 200-meter backstroke. In one of CBU’s all-time strongest events, the 200-yard backstroke, Andrade maintains the eighth-fastest time in program history.

After CBU, Vicente was a competitive swimmer at The Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He qualified for the Olympic trials for both the US and Mexico. He is currently an Aviation Rescue Swimmer in the Navy and works at Squadron HSC-23. He flies in the MH-60 Sierras, performing a variety of missions: over land and over water rescues, combat training, and air gunnery, amongst many other tasks.  Over the years, Vicente has been able to coach and mentor many swimmers, and one of those swimmers, Ian Mullen, now swims competitively at CBU. Vicente is beyond blessed for his time at CBU, for Coach Rowland, Coach Rowland Senior, and Coach Lisa. He notes that the experiences gained at CBU—the academic opportunities, athletic accomplishments, the lessons learned, and most importantly, the hand of God over it all have helped him to carry out his purpose. 

In 2006, Nicole earned two individual All-American nods and two relay All-American awards and set the then-school record in the 100-meter backstroke. She swam on the 200-yard medley relay team that won the National Championship and set the program record with a time of 1:48.07. In 2007, Nicole set records in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard medley and won an individual National Championship in the 200-yard backstroke with a record-setting time. Overall, Nicole is a 15-time All-American which ranks sixth most all-time on the women’s side and finished her career as a six-time National Champion. Shipman still ranks in the programs top-6 all time in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events.

Nicole obtained her Masters in Reading and Literacy and has been teaching for the last ten years. She has been married for six years and has two children, Clayton and Penelope.

Hannah is a two-time Division II Player of the Year and a four time All-American. In 2016 she earned Gold Coast Conference Player of the Year honors, earning three all-conference awards in total. Evans graduated as the program’s top goal scorer with 372 in 2016. Hannah is listed in the CBU women’s water polo record book 70 times holding multiple single game, single season, and career records. Tops among those accolades are her 422 points and 372 goals, both of which are the most in program history. After graduation, Hannah committed to play professionally overseas by signing with the UNSW Wests in Syndey Australia.

Hannah was also a highly talented swimmer, earning a pair of All-American honors while also being part of a fifth-place NCAA Championship team in the 400-medley relay in 2017. She remains in the programs top-10 all-time records for the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races.

While in Australia Hannah coached swimming and water polo and also met her husband, Kevin. They were married 2019 and welcomed their sons, Hudson in 2021 and Owen in 2022. The family now lives in Texas where Hannah is blessed to be a full-time stay-at-home mom.
