Program Intro

A degree in elementary education will prepare you for a career working with children and their families in elementary schools. It focuses on the best approaches for helping children learn — so you will master not just what to teach but how to teach. From the first year, you will work in the field and by graduation, you can obtain a preliminary California teaching credential along with your degree.

Why Study Elementary Education at CBU?

Graduate with a degree and a teaching credential

The elementary education degree program is tailored for students who know they want to become elementary school teachers. As such, elementary education majors will complete the state-approved subject matter and teacher preparation programs in their undergraduate career. This includes required fieldwork and student teaching. Upon graduation, students will not only obtain a bachelor's degree but also a California multi-subject teaching credential.

Put theory into practice

We ground our students in teaching-learning theory but we also equip them with the practical skills needed to create learning environments. We help them fit instructional strategies to a wide range of educational settings and learners. Our ultimate goal is to teach our graduates how to create self-sufficient, lifelong learners who not only master content but also critically analyze what they learn, collaborate well with others, create innovative solutions and communicate effectively.
