Behavioral Science, BA
The behavioral science major draws from anthropology, psychology and sociology to give a broad perspective on human behavior.
Program Intro
Students will develop the skills necessary to be proficient in the study, research, assessment and evaluation of human behavior from the perspective of all three fields. The major prepares students for employment in social service careers and for graduate study in psychology, sociology, social work and anthropology.

Gain real-world experience
Behavioral science at CBU is unique in that caring faculty provide a rigorous study of the human experience from a distinctly Christian worldview. All incoming students are required to complete an internship or a capstone experience. Past students have interned at Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Inland Empire, Operation SafeHouse and Veterans Affairs. Upon graduation, students will be equipped with the skills necessary for careers or graduate study in a global world.
Participate in research
All students complete a capstone research project and have the opportunity to participate in a research colloquium through our interdisciplinary research center—the Center for the Study of Human Behavior. We also offer the Culture & Justice Lecture Series six times per year, which offers students the opportunity to hear from national experts on topics related to the behavioral and social sciences.
What You'll Learn
Students graduating with a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science will demonstrate the following:
- Explain the major historical theories of psychology, anthropology, sociology and their influence on developing theories, the individual and society
- Use and apply psychology, anthropology, and sociology concepts to explain personal experiences and recognize the limitations of personal experience in understanding empirical phenomenon
- Think critically about theory and research in psychology, sociology and anthropology and integrate evidence from diverse worldviews
- Use and define terms and concepts of the discipline and, applying them appropriately, show a strong & direct link between concepts and assigned reading
- Apply ethical standards of the professions of psychology, sociology and anthropology to research and practice
- Understand the Christian worldview and apply biblical values and moral/ethical principles to research and practice
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with individuals with diverse backgrounds
Program Details
ANT 360: Globalization and Culture
This course explores the nature of globalization from multiple perspectives, but especially as evidenced in increasingly dynamic national and ethnic identities, (im)migration, economic disparity, and social systems.
BEH 333: Epistemology and Worldview
This course examines the basic models of integrating the Christian faith and modern behavioral sciences, including the development of biblical examples of worldview and epistemology.
BEH 383: Statistics and Research Methodology I
This course introduces the various quantitative and qualitative methodologies utilized in behavioral science research.
