Spiritual Development in Young Children

ECH 370

This course will explore spiritual development in young children from a biblical perspective including the role of Scripture in spiritual formation. Students will learn how to facilitate effectively the spiritual growth of children through a comprehensive understanding of the process of spiritual formation.

Consultation and Collaboration in Early Childhood Intervention

ECH 415

Students will examine the role of the early childhood intervention specialist as a member of interdisciplinary teams through readings, observations, interviews with professionals and family members. They will acquire skills in working with interdisciplinary team members.

Infant, Toddler, and Early Childhood Social and Emotional Development

ECH 350

This course introduces students to the process through which a child develops a sense of self within a socio-cultural system. Students will learn the significance of a supportive interpersonal environment for personality development.

Student Learning Outcomes

Consistent with the university student outcomes, upon completion of the Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Studies degree, graduates will be able to:

1. Apply the Christian worldview and ethical standards to decision-making in early childhood settings.
2. Promote effective learning environments for children with diverse backgrounds and educational needs as well as promote social justice for diverse populations, including those with disabilities.
3. Use theories of children’s development to design a theoretically based learning environment that supports learning across all domains for young children.
4. Apply abilities, dispositions and knowledge to collaborate effectively with families and other professionals and to plan for ongoing learning and improvement as a practitioner.
