Become exempt from taking the CSET or CBEST

Students who have earned the liberal studies degree and are interested in obtaining a California multiple subject and/or special education teaching credential(s) would be exempt from taking the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET). Additionally, students could meet the credential's basic skills requirements through coursework and would be exempt from taking the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).

Program Details

Consistent with the university student outcomes, upon completion of the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies degree, graduates will be able to:

  1. Communicate unique and alternative perspectives that appeal to a variety of senses and thought processes.
  2. Effectively convey ideas and concepts in an organized and inspiring fashion through oral and written mediums.
  3. Demonstrate command of the various subjects in relation to intended profession.
  4. Apply content and skills from a specialization to professional scenarios.
  5. Utilize various software programs for research, communication and instruction.
  6. Frame situations to provide constructive solutions.

EDU 302: Growth, Development and Learning

This course is a study of human growth and development during the first two decades of life.

EDU 300: American Public School

Exploring the educational paradigm historically and philosophically, students survey curriculum practices, teacher effectiveness, learner needs of the public schools, and classroom management to understand the challenges of teaching today.

HIS 311: Minorities in America

The role of minorities in the development of America. Principal areas of focus are immigration and the immigrant experience and the ethnic experiences of Blacks, Indians, and Hispanics.
