Your math and English placements were determined by any standardized test scores or transfer work submitted to CBU prior to admission.

English Placement Challenge Information

Students must register for the English course in which they were initially placed in order to complete enrollment.

The deadline to challenge your English placement is Friday, September 11 at 4:00 p.m.

Students are encouraged to complete the challenge process as early as possible to allow time to enroll in the appropriate course before the semester begins.

Students Placed into ENGL1130E/ENGL1130L

If you were placed into ENGL1130E/ENGL1130L (4 units) and have completed or are currently enrolled in a college-level composition course, or if you have taken the AP English Language and Composition exam, please speak with your Advisor/Student Success Coach. Transfer coursework and exam scores may affect your placement.

  • If you submitted SAT, ACT, or CLT scores to CBU, your placement was determined using those scores.
  • If you did not submit SAT, ACT, or CLT scores, your placement was determined based on your high school English grades.

Students who wish to challenge this placement may take the English Placement Challenge Exam offered by the Department of Modern Languages & Literature.

To schedule the in-person exam contact the Office of Student Success at (951) 343-4349 or email tutoring@calbaptist.edu.

Students Placed into ENGL1130

If you were placed into ENGL1130 but believe you should be placed into ENGL1230, you may take the English Placement Challenge Exam prepared by the Department of Modern Languages & Literature.

To schedule the exam, contact the Office of Student Success at (951) 343-4349 or email tutoring@calbaptist.edu.

Students Placed into ENGL1230

Students placed into ENGL1230 should register for that course as assigned. ENGL1230 is the highest placement level, and students may not challenge out of this course.

Students who successfully pass the English Placement Challenge Exam may become eligible to register for ENGL1230. Please note that the exam is for placement purposes only and does not award college credit or waive the requirement.

Additional Information

Please note that any transfer coursework, test scores, or AP English Language and Composition scores submitted after initial registration may result in an updated English placement. If changes are made, your Academic Advisor or Student Success Coach will contact you directly.

Math Placement

Your math placement has been determined based on standardized test scores, transfer coursework, or AP Calculus scores you may have submitted to CBU. If you would like to see if you can place into a higher level math course, you may purchase and take a Math Placement Exam.  Instructions on taking the Mobius Maa exam can be found here.

Additionally, test scores or transfer work submitted during or after online orientation may result in a change to your math placement. Your student success coach will reach out to you if this is the case.

If you have any questions, please contact your Student Success Coach.
