First-Year Experience
The First-Year Experience (FYE) program is designed to connect new first-year students to CBU during their first semester. It consists of two upperclassmen leaders who lead a group of approximately 20 students during Welcome Weekend and the Fall semester in the FYE Course (GST100).

Who needs to take GST100 (FYE)?
This course is required of all full-time, first-semester freshmen who graduated in the last two years and have not taken a similar course at another college.
Why does a first-year student need to take GST100?
These small group seminars, activities, and discussions are designed to address the developmental and transitional needs of new students at CBU. Each class time is designed to motivate students to engage and think about issues and topics critical to academic success at the university level.
Who leads the GST100 course?
GST100 (FYE) is lead by two (one male and one female) upperclassmen FYE leaders (returning students who have been selected for their leadership ability and experience). They are extra support and resources for First-Year students as they navigate their first semester of college. FYE leaders are supervised by CBU professional staff members in the Community Life office.
How often does the GST100 course meet?
This class meets once a week, every other week starting the first week of classes (*see FYE syllabus for more information).
What topics are covered in GST100?
GST100 covers topics such as the skills and relationships needed for students to succeed academically, socially, emotionally and, spiritually. Each student receives a pass/fail grade based on class engagement and the completion of assignments.
