Learn Truly Versatile Skills
Students who graduate with CBU's online BA in English degree will be prepared with a variety of skills useful in the workplace, such as writing, editing, publishing and analyzing literature. This versatile degree can be a foundation for advanced studies in other disciplines including teaching, marketing, advertising and law.
Become Exempt from Taking the CSET or CBEST
Students who have earned the English degree and are interested in obtaining a California single subject (English) and/or special education teaching credential(s) would be exempt from taking the English California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET). Additionally, students could meet the credential's basic skills requirements through coursework and would be exempt from taking the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).

- Reading and Interpretation: Create textually grounded interpretations of literature by using appropriate comprehension techniques and analytical strategies. (USO 1, 2, 3, 5, 6)
- Research: Incorporate into written work appropriate research from scholars in the relevant literary and theoretical fields. (USO 3, 4, 5)
- Christian Worldview: Articulate Christian perspectives of the creation and interpretation of literature. (USO 1, 2, 3, 5, 6)
- *Breadth of Literary Knowledge: Identify a variety of literary traditions including prominent authors, genres, literary movements and styles. (USO 2, 3, 5)
*This particular SLO is holistic to the program and so it is "practiced" in each course until the students' senior year, when it is "demonstrated."
