It shall not be binding on the Secretary of Education, California Baptist University, or the State, and may change. You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid in order to be eligible for, and receive, an actual financial aid award that includes Federal grant, loan, or work-study assistance under Title IV.

FAQs
| What is the FAFSA? The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the main application for financial aid at CBU. All federal aid is based on this application and the results of the FAFSA are used to calculate your financial aid award. The FAFSA is submitted to the federal Department of Education. Students will need to include the school code so that their information can be viewed by a school representative. |
| Will I qualify for financial aid through the FAFSA? To qualify for financial aid through the FAFSA, you must meet the following criteria:
|
|
What types of financial aid can I get through the FAFSA?
For a full list of grants and scholarships please click here. |
| How long will it take for CBU to receive my FAFSA? If you submitted the FAFSA online and listed CBU (001125) on it, we will usually receive the results in just a couple of days. It may take a little longer during peak processing season. |
| What do I need to do to have financial aid next year? You will need to submit a new FAFSA after October 1 for the following academic year. Once you register for classes for the following fall (usually in early spring), we will check for your FAFSA. If we need additional information, we will contact you. |
| How do I defer my student loans if transferring or going into a graduate program? Loan deferment is normally an automatic process. CBU verifies half-time enrollment for the student to the National Student Loan Database System (NSLDS). Your lender or service should also check with NSLDS and refrain from collecting on students who are enrolled at least half time. If you are attending at least half time (5 units for graduate students) and your lender is still trying to collect from you, please contact your lender and notify them of your status. If they request that you fill out an in-school deferment request form, please contact the Office of the Registrar at (951) 343-4566 for assistance. |
| When will I receive a financial aid offer? If you are new to CBU, we will send you an offer 1–2 weeks after you are admitted, as long as we have a complete FAFSA on file and have begun awarding for the upcoming year. This is typically in Nov-Dec for the following academic year. If we need further information before we can award you, you will receive an email to your LancerMail. |
| How do I access my financial aid offer? Your award letter can be viewed on LancerLink from the My Financial Aid card. |
|
My financial aid is not enough. What do I do?
|
| When will my refund check get mailed? Refund checks are mailed from the Student Accounts Office near the beginning of each term. Providing that you have fulfilled all loan requirements and are enrolled in all of your units for the term, your refund check should be mailed within 2 weeks after your loan disburses to CBU. For more information and other options for your refund, check with the Student Accounts Office at (951) 343-4371 or by emailing Student Accounts. |
What is a Special Circumstance Petition?
Sometimes your FAFSA doesn't fully reflect your current financial situation. If your
family has experienced a significant change in income or other special circumstances you may be eligible for a Special Circumstance Petition.
This process allows our Financial Aid Office to review your situation and determine
if your aid can be adjusted based on more accurate or current information.
For more information please look for Special Circumstance Petition option on the Financial Aid Office Card from LancerLink.
