A study of the biblical doctrines of Christ's atonement, salvation, Holy Spirit, the church and last things and how they inform a theology for and of worship. (3 units; Spring)

Worship Studies Requirements

MUS508 Contemp Issues in Wrshp and Min

This course exposes the student to conducting techniques for choir and band. Emphasis will be placed on the planning and execution of musical ensemble rehearsals. (2 units; Summer)

MUS518 Theology and History of Worship

This course examines key biblical passages and theological writings to develop a biblical theology of worship. Historical survey of the development and expression of worship in the church. Special emphasis placed on the writings of the Reformers, tracing the development of worship thought from the 16th century to current. (3 units; Fall)

MUS528 Liturgy and Worship Planning

This course studies the planning of corporate worship, incorporating musical, liturgical, and artistic elements. Technological tools and applications will be implemented in the teaching and worship plans developed throughout the course. (3 units; Spring)

Music Requirements

MUS537 History of Church Music

Survey of music used in church and devotional settings from the 16th century to current. Course will also examine church music in non-Western cultures. (3 units; Fall)

MUS538 Musicl Exprssn and Arts in Wrshp

An examination of the aesthetic components and properties of musical expression and the arts in worship. Writings of the Reformers will be examined to develop a Christian aesthetic for music and the arts and uses in worship. (2 units; Fall)

MUS547 Contemporary Arranging

This course explores arranging music for vocal and instrumental ensembles using available technologies. Emphasis is placed on music in and for the church, including contemporary music and ensembles. (2 units; Spring)

MUS557 Worship Technology

Emphasis on worship technology for application in the local church including sound reinforcement, lighting design and implementation, and video and audio recording. (2 units; Summer)

MUS558 Conductng and Rhrsl Techniques

This course exposes the student to conducting techniques for choir and band. Emphasis will be placed on the planning and execution of musical ensemble rehearsals. (1 unit; Summer)
