Mass production wouldn’t be possible without mechanical engineers. They design and improve every kind of machinery, from the largest systems like airplanes and oil drills to the smallest like hearing aids and batteries. As one of the most diverse engineering disciplines, mechanical engineering is used in such varied industries as aerospace, automotive and alternative energy. In CBU’s program, students study foundational principles of engineering, computer programming and physics. They learn how to work throughout a product’s lifecycle to optimize its design, development, installation, testing and maintenance.

Why study mechanical engineering at CBU?

Work in the industry and gain real-world experience
One of the most important parts of students’ college training will be learning in a real engineering job. Students have a special course to prepare them for this first engineering job. Their official internship will be the summer of junior year, although other opportunities may occur for them to work in the industry. Students have interned with such companies as Inceptus Design, NSWC, UTC Aerospace Systems, HP, and more.

Learn how to manage projects
Industrial representatives continue to emphasize that they wish new engineers had more project management experience. Engineering students in their junior year work with and co-mentor business students. Our goal is that eventually all students in our program will develop one of their own creative ideas and go through the process to receive a provisional patent.

Take part in extracurricular activities
Students give back to the community through service projects, and also have the opportunity to do research with faculty members. Our SAE Car Club competes annually in competitions, where students gain experience with SAE car design, a perquisite for employment with SpaceX, and other engineering companies.

Complete in 3 years

My research interests include heat transfer enhancement, drug delivery simulation and shape memory alloy, and my work has been published in various journals. I learned to ski in the winter of 2013 and fell in love with the sport. I also like hiking and biking.
