Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders

Our programs are designed to equip students with the knowledge, clinical experiences and professional skills to successfully begin a career in the field of communication sciences and disorders (CSD). Students who complete our bachelor’s degree program may pursue professions in either speech-language pathology or audiology. Both speech-language pathology and audiology are consistently ranked as “top jobs” in industry surveys, and our graduates consistently earn employment in a variety of settings including schools, medical facilities and private practice clinics. Earning a bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders allows students to pursue either graduate education in speech-language pathology or audiology or work immediately as speech-language pathology assistants.

The CSD department also offers a master’s degree program in speech-language pathology. Our graduate curriculum offers challenging, relevant coursework and a variety of clinical practicum experiences that ensure our graduates are fully prepared to enter the profession. Our on-campus Clinical Education Center affords students the opportunity to learn how to work with people with communication disorders across the lifespan. Our clinical supervisors are experts in the field and they guide students in implementing speech-language therapy in both individual and group contexts. The speech-language pathology program at CBU is designed to integrate classroom learning with clinical experiences. We offer many opportunities for students to practice skills they learn in the classroom with clients in real-life situations. Most importantly, we strive to create a collaborative, collegial learning environment by making personal connections with all our students. The faculty at CBU are all strongly committed to teaching and supervising students, and we are motivated by watching students grow in their knowledge and love for the field of speech-language pathology. Whether you prefer meeting once a semester for advising, talking to professors after class or emailing questions/observations, you will find our faculty value every opportunity to help students reach their maximum potential.

Thank you for considering the CSD program at CBU for your undergraduate or graduate studies. Please reach out any time if I can help you understand more about our programs.

Many blessings,
Bryan Ness, PhD, CCC-SLP
