Life at CBU
Why did you choose your major? What interested you in this particular field of study?
Before CBU, I was working as an EMT and starting to desire to spend more time with
my patients. The quick pick-ups and drop-offs from place to place weighed on me and
I desired to do more for my patients. I was exposed to nursing because I often worked
with nurses. After much prayer and consideration, I knew that was what God was leading
me to do.
What did you like about being in this program at CBU?
What I liked best about CBU’s nursing program was that I got taught how to be a good
nurse. Moreover I was encouraged to be more than just a good nurse but a good person
and a good follower of Christ. Getting training in nursing from a Christian perspective
is how CBU School of Nursing sets itself apart. Plus, all my professors were great!
They were always kind, knowledgeable and approachable.
Did you complete an internship?
As part of our capstone project we did a mini internship, where for a semester we
were placed with a nurse at a local hospital. We worked his/her schedule and assumed
care for his/her patients as the nurse supervised. It was very challenging but that
experience definitely prepared me for practicing as a nurse on my own after graduation.
Did you participate in anything else at CBU?
I participated in flag football. As one of the founding members of Goon Squad, I often
blew off steam and stress playing intermural flag football. It was a great experience,
I had a lot of fun, and it helped me decompress after a stressful week of study.
How did you grow (spiritually, socially, educationally) while in this program at CBU?
I learned a lot about God’s faithfulness while in school. As many nurses will recall,
nursing school is very challenging, often taking you to your limits. I learned to
lean on God for strength and wisdom and He was faithful to see me through.
Did your major help you figure out your purpose?
Absolutely. Without a doubt, I have found my purpose as a nurse.
Life after CBU
What have you done since graduating?
I passed NCLEX and have two special certifications in both adult and pediatric life
support. I have now almost 4 years of acute care pediatric nursing experience, and
have really learned a lot and have grown as a nurse and as a person.
Is there anything you learned at CBU that you still use in your professional life
today?
Everything we covered in theory and clinical is useful information that I often pull
from in my professional life today.
How are you making a difference in the world? How are you living your purpose?
I am poring my heart and soul into the care of the patients and families I am assigned
to. And through that I believe I am living my purpose as a follower of Christ in furthering
His kingdom.
