Life at CBU
Why did you choose your major? What interested you in this particular field of study?
I chose business administration as my degree program because of my fascination with
the business world as well as its nature in being very applicable to many career paths.
I was not 100% sure what I wanted to pursue a career in when I chose business admin,
but I knew that a business degree was what I wanted to work towards.
What did you like about being in this program at CBU?
I loved being surrounded by so many Christ-centered students and faculty. You could
sense that everybody was working towards a stronger relationship with Christ while
growing in their personal and professional journeys. The classes were extremely data-driven
and the coursework gave me a stronger understanding of the many facets of business
while also keeping a Christ-centered approach.
What did you think about your professors?
My professors were some of the brightest minds I have still to this day engaged with.
I actually am still in contact with many and often request advice from a few of my
close professors. Their pedigrees speak for themselves, but what sets them apart is
their pure desire to see our future business leaders lead with the fruits of the Spirit.
Did you complete an internship?
I did complete an internship with my aunt's promotional merchandise distributorship.
This is where I got my feet wet in the world of brand marketing, and I learned so
much in terms of business application through my time with her.
Did you participate in anything else at CBU?
While this was not directly correlated with CBU, I, along with a number of other Lancers,
led worship across the street at Magnolia Ave Baptist Church on the weekends. I grew
very close with a few of my fellow classmates and still to this day stay in touch!
How did you grow (spiritually, socially and educationally) while in this program at
CBU?
I grew exponentially during my time at CBU in so many ways. I learned that one can
make your career your ministry and focus on showing people the fruits of the Spirit
in every area of life. Church is not just four walls but who we are representing the
Body of Christ wherever we are at. I, of course, learned a tremendous amount of knowledge
in business and management which gave me all the confidence in the world to excel
in wherever the Lord took me career-wise.
Did your major help you figure out your purpose?
It most definitely did! During my internship, I realized I was really gifted in brand
marketing, and I learned how to do so with Christ at the center of my career. My purpose
is not to sell the most or to be the most successful, but to lead by example a Christ-like
approach to both work and life!
Life after CBU
What have you done since graduating?
I joined a start-up back in 2015 called Doing Good Works. Since joining as one of
the first on board, I've been recognized as an honoree for the Greater Irvine Chamber's
"40 Under 40" 2024 cohort, received the 2020 Bess Cohn Humanitarian of the Year for
my efforts in shaping a more socially responsible promotional advertising sector led
by a human and planet-first approach, led our organization to being a 2x INC 5000
Fastest Growing Company and Forbes Best Place to Work, and become a founding board
member for both B Local Orange County as well as Santiago Canyon College's Alumni
Association. While helping Fortune 500 companies pull off strategic branding initiatives
has been a blessing, my favorite accomplishment to date has been strategically procuring
over 20 million FDA medical-grade face masks for national healthcare organizations
at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020. To know I played a small role
in helping keep frontline workers properly protected during such a trying time will
always hold a special place in my heart.
What are your current job duties?
As chief impact officer, my role is to ensure that Doing Good Works is creating social
and environmental impact both internally and externally. I have the pleasure of overseeing
our business division and focusing on our organization providing an exceptional customer
experience for all of our brand marketing clients. In addition, I have the pleasure
of supporting our 501(c)3 nonprofit, Foster Greatness, in ushering in new community
stakeholders to provide expertise and resources to individuals with lived experience
in the foster care system.
How has your major and time at CBU prepared you for your life and career after college?
My time at CBU has prepared me in ways I could have never imagined. While the coursework
was very Christ-driven, it was also very heavy in practical application and modern
principles, which has allowed me to integrate into society with a true understanding
of the business world. My time at CBU also has shaped me into being the Christ-centered
father and husband that I have the God-given privilege of being today!
Is there anything you learned at CBU that you still use in your professional life
today?
I consistently use so many of my professors' teachings throughout my career, but most
importantly, I learned to make my life my ministry. Whether I'm guiding a team member
through a conflict or out shopping at the grocery store, I aim to always show people
the love of Christ.
How are you making a difference in the world? How are you living your purpose?
Through my work at DGW, I show organizations how their branding and marketing spend
can create a better tomorrow. Through clean supply chains and ethically made merchandise,
I have the pleasure of ensuring that giant brands are creating both local and global
impact. In addition, I get to live my purpose out through my worship ministry, to
which I am a worship leader at my local church in Laguna Niguel, CA, and have the
pleasure of ushering in God's people into a time of worship and prayer.
What are your future goals and plans?
My goals are simple: to love and grow my family in the way God intended and to always
ensure I am showing the fruits of the Spirit in my career. I plan to continue assisting
Doing Good Works and our family of brands in becoming a vessel for change both locally
and globally. Lastly, I plan to always continue leading worship and staying involved
in the local church so my children can see a true example of a Christ-centered father!
Would you recommend CBU to others?
I absolutely would recommend CBU to everybody. Give me a megaphone and I'll shout
it from the rooftops! CBU gave me the tools and resources to thrive in today's ever-changing
world while never losing sight of God. Their world-class academics coupled with a
biblical approach give people the ability to excel in the modern world while showing
the love of Christ in any field!
Anything else you'd like to add?
I am an avid sport fisherman, golfer, musician (guitar/ukukele/vocals), and fanatic
of dad jokes and puns!
