Life at CBU
Why did you choose your major? What interested you in this particular field of study?
I chose this major because I had always wanted to work with people who are in desperate
need and I always believed that the only way to do that was to get to the very root
of the problem. The only way of doing that is to understand the whole picture and
anthropology taught me how to do that!
What did you like about being in this program at CBU?
I was a transfer student from Chaffey College, and studying anthropology in a public
college was very challenging because I felt that my religious beliefs were always
being questioned. At CBU I was so excited that I got to learn a lot from both worlds
and compare and contrast creationism vs. evolutionism.
What did you think about your professors?
I absolutely loved all my professors. They were always available when I needed them
and not only was educational support provided, but also moral and spiritual support.
Did you participate in anything else at CBU?
I was in New Song Women’s Choir throughout my years at CBU. It was challenging, but
it was also very rewarding and through that I felt like I was a more active student
in the school.
How did you grow (spiritually, socially, educationally) while in this program at CBU?
I feel that my faith got stronger through my years at CBU. I was able to make friends
with people who held to the same values as me, which also helped me grow. I honestly
believe that I had never known the true meaning of friendship until I made friends
at CBU. I just love the sense of community of this school and I really like that the
professors genuinely care for the students and want everyone to succeed. I feel that
my whole life has changed and I have grown in every aspect.
Did your major help you figure out your purpose?
Yes, because I wasn’t exactly sure what to do with my major and when I found out that
I could take it down the social work path I knew that was exactly what I wanted to
do.
Life after CBU
What have you done since graduating?
I was able to land the job I have now thanks to my behavioral science background so
I am glad that I am able to put my B.A. to good use. I am also currently enrolled
in the Master of Social Work program at CBU.
How has your major and time at CBU prepared you for your life and career after college?
I believe that my life has really been changed and I believe that I can now observe
and assess situations a lot more different now. Not only can I handle situations in
my personal life differently, but also at work where all the kids have many different
behaviors.
Is there anything you learned at CBU that you still use in your professional life
today?
I learned that we cannot see the world through a one-size-fits-all model, but that
every situation should be looked at differently and we should find the best solution
that specifically fits that situation. This has helped me in my job because I work
with children from diverse backgrounds and they each have their own individual story.
How are you making a difference in the world? How are you living your purpose?
I believe I am making a difference by working with children who are very difficult
to work with and who have very challenging behaviors. Although it is a difficult job,
but I am able to overcome the difficulties thanks to what I learned.
Would you recommend CBU to others?
Most definitely, I have actually recommended this school to others. I just love the
sense of community of this school and I really like that the professors genuinely
care for the students and want everyone to succeed.
