Christian Meditation Lab
Mission Statement
Our mission is to empirically investigate Christian meditation as a Christian-sensitive alternative to Buddhist-informed mindfulness and loving-kindness meditation for clinical and non-clinical Christian populations in order to improve physical, mental, social and spiritual health, deepening Christians’ relationship with God in the process.
In our lab, we explore the biological, psychological, interpersonal and spiritual processes of distinctly Christian forms of meditation, housed within the 2,000-year-old Christian tradition. We focus on kataphatic (using words and images) and apophatic (wordless and imageless) forms of Christian meditation, alternatives to the Buddhist-informed loving-kindness and mindfulness meditative practices that are currently popular in the clinical psychology literature.
