Requirement (SMR) Guidelines.
- Complete a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or the evaluated equivalency.
- Meet the California Basic Skills Requirement (BSR). Most applicants satisfy this
requirement through completion of a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited
institution. Additional pathways may be available through coursework, examinations, or a
combination of approved methods. Please review the BSR/SMR Guidelines page for additional information. -
Meet the California Subject Matter Requirement (SMR). Applicants may satisfy this
requirement through a variety of approved pathways, including qualifying degrees,
approved coursework, subject matter preparation programs, examinations, and other
options recognized by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Please review the BSR/SMR Guidelines page for additional information. - Meet the minimum grade point average:
- A minimum 2.75 GPA
- Applicants who do not meet the minimum GPA may be considered for admission upon evaluation of transcripts and additional application materials.
- Written statement of purpose OR in-person/virtual program interview (student's choice).
Written statement (500-word maximum) or interview will address:
- What are your educational goals?
- How will this program help meet those goals?
- What makes you a good fit for CBU?
- Verification of a valid Certificate of Clearance (COC) issued by the California
Commission on Teacher Credentialing. - Credential program acceptance.
