University Archives
The California Baptist University Archives at the Annie Gabriel Library is the university’s principle repository for preserving historical documents and records related to CBU and the Southern Baptist Convention. The Archives currently host two collections:
The Queenie Simmons Archive serves as the designated campus repository for records, documents, publications, and other materials that document the history of California Baptist University.
The Southern Baptist Depository and Archive (SBDA) holds unique collections documenting the history of the Southern Baptist Convention, with special focus on Southern Baptists in California, the Western United States, and around the Pacific Rim, including churches, organizations, and individuals that have contributed to Southern Baptist life. The SBDA also holds the organizational records of the California Southern Baptist Convention (CSBC).
Using Our Collections
The Archives are open to the CBU community and the public for research. Use of the collections is by appointment only. Contact Rachel Murrell, the Library Archivist, to schedule an appointment to conduct research: (951) 343-4250 or rmurrell@calbaptist.edu
Our archival holdings can be searched using the ArchivesSpace database.
The Archive is currently involved in an initiative to digitize its collections. Four collections are now available online:
The Banner Digital Archive -- CBU's award-winning student newspaper, with issues from 1952 to 2018. More recent issues are available here.
The Roundtable Digital Archive -- The official magazine of California Baptist University, including issues from 1961.
Angelos Yearbook Digital Archive - California Baptist University’s annual yearbook, established in 1953.
California Baptist University Digital Archive -- A variety of digitized items from the Archives' collections.
The CBU Archives have been greatly enhanced by donations of relevant historical materials. Please contact us for detailed information about how you can make donations or other contributions to the Archives!
