Campus Traditions
Year-Round
Coffeehouse — Coffeehouse events occur multiple times a year either in Stamps Courtyard, Lancer Plaza or the Community Life Lounge. These feature Open Mic Nights with CBU students, events by local artists and sometimes bigger names such as Tyrone Wells or Phil Wickham.
Commuter Sidewalk Café (first Tuesday and Wednesday of every month) — Each month, Community Life provides a grab-and-go breakfast (Tuesday) or lunch (Wednesday) to serve our commuter students and connect them to university events and programs.
Club Fair — Twice a year student clubs and organizations have the opportunity to highlight their club and share upcoming club events. This event gives students a chance to see what clubs are active for the year so they can decide which one(s) to join.
Kugel Walk — The Kugel, a floating granite globe sculpture located in the Ronald L. and Jane Dowden Ellis Great Commission Plaza at the main entrance to the Eugene and Billie Yeager Center, is a symbol of Christ's Great Commission. The name of the globe comes from the German word, "kugel" (pronounced KOO-gol), and means "ball." California Baptist University tradition calls for newly enrolled students to touch the Kugel as they begin their educational experience at CBU and again on commencement day. The Kugel plays a similar role for participants in other CBU activities such as International Service Projects. The tradition symbolizes each student's commitment to live a life of purpose in accordance with his or her spiritual beliefs.
Late Night Breakfast (finals week) — This event truly is a late night breakfast served by the faculty and staff to the students on the first night of finals week.
Fall Semester
Blood Drive (mid-October) — Each semester, members of the CBU community have the chance to donate blood.

Highlights include the introduction of the men's and women's basketball teams, a dunk contest, 3-point shootout, games and relays, and free food and prizes for the fans. You must wear your CBU Crazies T-shirt to get in the door.
Fortuna Bowl (early November) — This is the championship for the recreational sports men's and women's flag football season. These highly anticipated games are played on the Front Lawn under the lights. This night has become a CBU fall classic event that no one wants to miss!
Yule (early December) — This event features a formal dinner and night of entertainment hosted at various locations to celebrate the holiday season. Past venues include Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel, Riverside Convention Center and Medieval Times.
Merry & Bright (early December) – Our on-campus annual Christmas celebration featuring the reading of the Christmas story from Luke 2 by Dr. Ellis, the lighting of the tree, an opportunity to serve with Operation Christmas Child, snow and more.
