Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
In Scholarship Reconsidered: Priorities of the Professoriate, Boyer (1990) argues for the validation of the scholarship of teaching. Implementation of research on teaching was hampered by the lack of clarity between using research to inform teaching and conducting research on the act of teaching. Recent work has differentiated the two resulting in Scholarly Teaching, using research to inform practice, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), which is conducting research on teaching practices. For an in-depth discussion about these two and how they inform the work of faculty members, check out this link.
A number of resources are available in our CBU library for faculty members to engage with - either to further work already being done or to start on a new venture. Check out the resources listed in the accordion below. Be sure to click into the accordion to find resources for SoTL in your discipline.
