Residence Director of Lancer Arms
Sam was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and moved to the United States when he was young. He was raised throughout Southern California living and attending different schools in the cities of Glendale, Tarzana, Sylmar and Tujunga. He and his wife, Emily, both graduated from CBU (2012 and 2013 respectively) and married October 2013. Sam and Emily have attended and served Orangecrest Community Church since 2012 and have been members since 2013. They have one child. Sam enjoys spending time with family and friends at Ikea, playing soccer, camping, traveling and reading journal articles on psychology.
Residence Director of The Cottages
Rachel was born and raised in Brea, CA, where she lived with her parents and 5 siblings. After attending Fullerton College she transferred to CBU to finish her undergraduate. In 2012 she received her bachelor's in Christian behavioral science. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in educational leadership from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. She hopes to one day move overseas and use education as a means to share the gospel. Rachel enjoys watching Friends, drinking coffee and giving people a hard time. :) Working with college students is something Rachel is passionate about and she is blessed to be a part of RezLife here at CBU.
Residence Director of Smith Hall
Austin is originally from Redlands, CA, where he grew up with his two parents and one brother. He attended California Baptist University after high school and had the opportunity to serve as a resident advisor during his junior and senior years. He graduated from CBU with his bachelor of arts in business administration and is now pursuing his master's in educational leadership from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Austin has been happily married since November 2014. His wife also graduated from CBU. Some of Austin's hobbies are playing sports, spending time with friends and drinking coffee. Austin and his wife, Niki, love working with college students because it is such a moldable time in their lives. One day they would love to move overseas to use their passions and giftings to share the gospel.
Residence Director of Simmons Halls
Sarah came to CBU in 2013 from a little known gem of California … Fresno. During her time at Fresno State, Sarah was involved in the residence life program and that is what initially sparked her passion for college students. After working a few years in church ministry, the Lord once again ignited the spark in Sarah's heart for college students. At that point, she found herself taking a leap of faith and began to pursue her master's degree in college student development. In the summer of 2013, the Lord began opening doors for her transition to Riverside, and she now finds herself living among the fabulous students of CBU as a residence director. Since her time here, her love and appreciation for college students has only grown. She loves the challenge and fun it brings. On her off days you can find her drinking a good cup of coffee, running outside or making people laugh.
Residence Director of North Colony
Born and raised in San Diego, CA, Taylor moved up to Riverside in 2009 to attend CBU. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in psychology, she went on to pursue a master's in higher education from Azusa Pacific University. It was during her time as a student at CBU that she realized how much she loves working with college students. Working in Residence Life has furthered that love. Besides being an RD, Taylor enjoys the outdoors, reading, coffee, all things San Diego and hanging out with good friends.
Graduate Assistant of North Colony
Born in Highland, CA, Shane Blake moved to Riverside, CA, in 2010 to study at CBU. During his time as a student at CBU, Shane began to pursue an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ and in doing so discovered his passions of communicating God's life-saving grace through athletics, Residence Life and International Service Projects. In May 2014, Shane graduated with a B.A. in English and Christian behavioral science. After graduation, he was given the opportunity to serve as a Residence Life graduate assistant with an emphasis of para-professional while studying for an M.A. of school counseling at Azusa Pacific University. He is beyond excited to be a part of Residence Life for another term and is looking forward to continuing to learn how to develop students and share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Some of Shane's favorites include coffee, swimming, Disneyland and literature.
Residence Director of East Colony
Bernard Dafney is from Long Beach, CA. He has had the privilege of living in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Mississippi and South Asia over the past few years. He has a B.A. in English literature and theatre. He is currently completing his MA in interculutural ministries at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.
Graduate Assistant of East Colony
Born and raised outside of the United States, Catherine Rice came to CBU as a student in 2011. Catherine graduated with her bachelor of arts in early childhood studies in 2015 and is now pursuing her master's of education in TESOL from California State University, San Bernardino. Catherine's love for college students started when she became an RA in her undergraduate career. Catherine's passions include traveling, investing in college-aged women, teaching and international students. She loves a good conversation over tea or coffee, exploring, hiking and going to the beach. Catherine plans to move overseas one day in order to teach English.
Residence Director of West Colony
Ian is originally from Yucaipa, CA. After graduating high school and completing two years of junior college, Ian attended CBU, where he earned a degree in kinesiology. While attending CBU, Ian served on two International Service Projects where he discovered his passion for ministry and the spiritual development of others. Ian received a master's of education in school counseling from APU and is currently working on his master's of divinity. His desires are to develop student leaders and promote Christ-centered community as a residence director. Ian enjoys traveling, cycling, working out, reading, coffee roasting and conversations over a fresh cup of coffee. His favorite snacks are cannolis and cookies if you ever want to bring him a treat.
Graduate Assistant of West Colony
Jeremy was born in New Jersey and raised in Florida. He received his bachelor's in Christian ministries from Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. After graduating he moved to the island of Maui, Hawaii to work at a church called Hope Chapel. Jeremy moved to California a year ago to pursue his master's in college counseling and student development at Azusa Pacific University. He serves as a graduate assistant for para-professional training and helps foster community in the West Colony living area. Jeremy is obsessed with macaroni and cheese, loves a good hike, the beach, the company of good friends and most of all the kindest person he knows, Jesus Christ.
Residence Director of The Point
Brandon graduated from CBU with his bachelor's in applied theology degree in 2008 and received his master's in theology from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in 2014. He and his wife Andrea are involved in the family and student ministries at a local church near CBU and have been serving there since 2005. Brandon loves being a part of CBU's college community through relationships, discipleship, and building community. He also loves to study God's word, talk about the word of God with others, read books, play all sports (especially basketball) and invest in relationships with those around him. He and his wife both love opening up their home and look forward to getting to know you!

Rory was born and raised in Whittier, CA, where he spent most of his childhood playing baseball and getting bad grades in school. He attended Azusa Pacific University, where he received both a bachelor of arts in communication studies as well as a master of arts in leadership development. He has been an RD at CBU since 2011. His hobbies include: going hiking and backpacking, going out to coffee, Netflix binge watching, reading articles about higher education and being surrounded by people who love to laugh.

From sunny Sun Valley, CA, Kelly Tillery began attending CBU in the fall of 2008. She quickly discovered many of her passions including singing, overseas ministries and ministering to college-aged women. She graduated in 2012 with a bachelor of arts in liberal studies and continued her education to complete her master of science in special education in May 2014. In June 2013 she married her best friend Jonny and their journey together has been amazingly beautiful. She enjoys football, reading, leading worship and spending time with her sisters.
Residence Director of University Place Men
Matt joined the RezLife team in 2010. He graduated from CBU with a bachelor of arts degree in Christian studies and master of science in counseling psychology. He is married to a beautiful and God-fearing woman named Ashley and is constantly reminded of God's grace in his life through her love for him. Matt's hobbies include playing any sport, rooting for the Dodgers and the Lakers, playing board games and going to the movies. Matt enjoys his role in Residence Life because of the opportunity to invest in the lives of students!
Residence Director of Tower Hall
Raised in a small town in the desert of Arizona, McKenna Bennett came to California for college (and to be closer to Disneyland). In 2014, she graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a bachelor of arts in business management. From there she worked for a year at a graduate school and church in San Jose, but has recently relocated back down south to Riverside to work as an RD here at CBU. She has a passion for college-age students, as she views it as one of the most transformative times of life. Two and a half of her years at APU were spent serving in residence life as a community mentor, resident advisor and community advisor. McKenna thrives in the residence life world for the love of the ability to truly live life alongside students. She strives to create a home for all her residents and to come alongside them in the hopes to see them mature in their faith and apply it in all they do. She also hopes to challenge students in order to inspire growth in their character and skill sets as they proceed in their college careers. Besides hanging out in Tower Hall, McKenna loves to go on adventures and explore new places (especially in the mountains), crafting (dabbling with calligraphy), playing sand volleyball, camping, Disneyland, learning new things and spending quality time with dear friends.

Aimee completed her undergraduate degree at CBU in 2008 with a major in history and a minor in global studies. She was strongly influenced by the International Service Projects offered at CBU which grew her passion for people and her heart for the nations. After graduating, she moved to South Korea for a year to teach English. Upon her return from Korea, she was hired as a full-time ministry coordinator for her church, planning outreach trips for stateside and international outreaches. In 2012, Aimee married her wonderful husband, Alex, and they have a spirited dog named Thor. Aimee has worked at CBU as a full-time staff member since 2012. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, participating in ISP and USP, camping and going to the beach.
Residence Life Office Manager
Joni Dunlap has worked in CBU's Residence Life since 1998. She is a native Californian who has (except for 6 weeks in Phoenix) always lived in California, although not always in Riverside. She attended college in Bakersfield, Riverside, Walnut and Pomona, graduating from Cal Poly with a bachelor of science degree. She is active in her church as a greeter and prayer partner and has been very involved in Bible Study Fellowship for over 20 years. Joni is a wife, mother of two young adults and owner of two dogs. She is a fan of musical theater, traveling and classic movies. Working at CBU has been a blessing and she treasures all the students who have touched her life.
Housing Services Coordinator
Nathan was born and raised in a small town in Northern California. He moved from there to Riverside in the late '80s and began a career as an electrician. He married in 1991 and now has three girls. He ended a 25-year career as a general foreman in 2012, sold the majority of his family's possessions and moved to Chicago as part of a church-plant team. When their time in Chicago was finished they moved back to Riverside where Nathan began his current career as the Housing Services coordinator for the Office of Residence Life. The Hicks family is currently trying to discern and understand God's purpose in the path He has led them on over the last three years and is looking forward to how He will use them in the future. God is good.
Assistant Director of Residence Life
Hailing from beautiful St. Paul, Minnesota, Bethany "Beej" Scott moved to California in 2004 and became an official SoCal resident not long after that. Upon graduating from Bethel University with a B.A. in communication studies she then came to California to pursue an M.Ed. in college student affairs at Azusa Pacific University. It was during her senior year at Bethel that Bethany discovered her passion for working with college students and she is thrilled to be working in Residence Life at CBU. Some of Bethany's favorites include her husband TK, kids Ellie and Cooper, family, friends, running, ice cream, the show Biggest Loser and simply enjoying each new adventure life brings!
