1. What are the program's entry dates and application deadline?
The M.A. in Counseling Ministry offers a rolling admission policy, and accepts students for the fall (September), spring (January) or summer (May) semesters. Students may begin the program in any semester or term. For priority consideration it is suggested applications be completed at least two months prior to the first day of class.
2. Will the program prepare me for licensure?
The M.A. in Counseling Ministry alone does not prepare students for state licensure as marriage and family therapists. Students in the program may, however, choose to concurrently work toward a M.S. in Counseling Psychology aimed at obtaining licensing by the state to practice in a clinical setting.
3. When do classes meet?
The M.A. in Counseling Ministry program is designed to accommodate the busy schedules of working adults. Typically, classes are held weeknights between 4–7 p.m.
4. What are program prerequisites?
Prerequites for the M.A. in Counseling Ministry are Development Psychology, Theories of Personality, and Christian Doctrine or a course in Systematic Theology.
5. What is the GPA/GRE requirement?
Candidates must have a minimum 3.0 GPA for unconditional admission and a minimum 2.75 GPA for conditional admission. Applicants with a GPA below 2.75 may be considered for admission with the presentation of a minimum combined score of 1000 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).
6. How long does the program take?
The length of the program may vary for each student depending on course load. Students attending full-time may complete the program in approximately three semesters.
7. Will I need to complete a thesis or a practicum (field work)?
