At CBU, pharmaceutical sciences courses are taught by full-time faculty members in
state-of-the-art labs, giving students both hands-on experience and individual attention.
CBU is a medium-sized university. This means, unlike tiny schools, we have very well-equipped
modern labs, and unlike very large schools we give our students extensive training
and hands-on time with advanced lab equipment. Additionally, the chemistry department
regularly hires current students to assist with preparing solutions, maintaining equipment
and even teaching some introductory labs, allowing for paid opportunities to gain
experience and build your resume outside the classroom.
Prepare for a career in the field
Students who graduate with a bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical sciences can continue
on to graduate programs in pharmacy (PharmD) and related areas in addition to entry-level
pharmaceutical research, sales and industry positions.
This course will introduce the student to basic and clinical pharmacology as related to the promotion of health and alleviation of disease. The course will consider drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, elimination, and pharmacodynamic effects on the human body.
A survey of the chemical reactions in living systems. Attention given to enzymes.
A general survey of microorganisms with an emphasis on bacteria. The study includes morphologic characteristics, growth, reproduction, metabolism, genetics and taxonomy of bacteria; a general survey of viruses, fungi, protozoans and algae; and microbiology of food, water, soil and industry.

I grew up loving math and science. In junior high, my principal told us that if we enjoyed biology, chemistry, math, physics, and computers we should consider this new field called bioinformatics. I went on to study biochemistry, genetics, and bioinformatics and have loved the intersection of the disciplines as they reveal the complexity of God’s design in us.
As a professor, instructing about biological systems and the human body is awesome, but meeting with students and seeing their successes is even more exhilarating! During the last several years, I have also been blessed to serve on International Service Projects with CBU students. In my off hours, I love to read biographies, hike with my wife, bike on mountain roads, and do house projects.
