During your studies, you prepare for your career as a construction manager by learning about:
- The theories and practices of construction management, including comprehensive overviews of the industry, risk management challenges, sustainability and more.
- Construction plan reading, how to interpret and conduct surveys for commercial and residential projects and how to estimate project costs.
- The fundamentals of computer-aided design, building information modeling, construction visualization and sketching applications.
- The value of an engineering education and engineering disciplines — all from a Christian worldview.
- Business law, including contracts, insurance, law of sales, negotiable instruments, bankruptcy and more.
- Construction materials and methods, such as site investigations, construction methods, equipment types and uses, and material characteristics and costs.
- The theoretical and practical applications of construction planning and scheduling.
- The variety of building types and structural systems.
- The foundational concepts of construction project documentation, administration and delivery.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical and piping (MEP) systems.
Program Details
Completion of the construction management degree program equips you to:
- Create written communication appropriate to the construction discipline.
- Create oral presentations appropriate to the construction discipline.
- Create construction project safety plans.
- Create construction project cost estimates.
- Create construction project schedules.
The BS in Construction Management program consists of 87 major units broken down into:
- 13 Lower-Division Requirements
- 17 Upper-Division Requirements
Additionally, you must complete 200 hours of a pre-approved supervised internship, as well as an approved cross-cultural experience.
Students must also meet the general education requirements, totaling 124 units.

If you are pursuing a different degree path but are interested in expanding your expertise, CBU offers an 18-credit construction management minor that provides a comprehensive overview of construction fundamentals, technical competencies and managerial best practices.
CON 205: Plan Reading and Estimating
Plan Reading and Estimating introduces students to construction plan reading and interpretation of residential and commercial projects.
CON 215: Computer-Aided Drafting and Design
This course introduces students to construction visualization, sketching applications and fundamentals of building information modeling.
CON 350: Project Delivery, Law and Contracts
This course provides fundamental knowledge for the documentation, administration and successful delivery of construction projects through the application of industry standard project delivery methodologies.

Who should look into the 3-year construction management program?
- High school seniors accepted to CBU engineering who have taken AP Calculus AB exam with a score of 4 or above (or AP Calculus BC with a score of 3 or above) and two other AP subjects valid for degree requirements in the College of Engineering at CBU.
- STEM-minded, highly-motived, and hard-working high school sophomore and junior students who are planning to pursue an engineering degree.
What are the advantages of the 3-year construction management program?
- Saving tens of thousands of dollars on tuition and other expenses.
- Giving yourself a jump-start on your professional career.
- Allowing you to advance earlier into a post-graduate degree.
- Increasing your lifetime income by starting to work one year earlier.
How does it work?
- Inform your CBU admission counselor that you would like to pursue a 3-year BS degree in construction management.
- Send your AP or CLEP scores to CBU.
- Develop an academic plan to be reviewed and approved by your department chair before your first week of class at CBU.
- Work with your faculty academic advisor who will monitor your progress and help you resolve schedule conflicts throughout the next three years.
- Expect to take a full load of 17-18 units of courses each semester.
- You will possibly need to take courses during the summer after your first and/or third year(s).
- A required 200-hour internship will mostly likely take place during the summer after your 2nd year. Therefore students on the 3-year plan might not be able to use that summer to take courses.
