This course will provide an overview of the salient math topics most heavily used in the core sophomore-level engineering courses. These include trigonometry, vectors, complex numbers, sinusoids and harmonic signals, systems of equations and matrices, derivatives, integrals, differential equations and Fourier series within the context of an engineering application. These concepts will be reinforced through extensive examples of their use in the core engineering curriculum. Students may only earn credit for either EGR 182 or EGR 182L. Dispatch (18 units)

An in-depth study analyzing large aircraft weight and balance and performance charts, high-speed aerodynamics, instrument approach plates and high altitude enroute charts. An introduction to 14 CFR 121 and 117 regulations applicable to domestic and flag carriers will be covered. An analysis of aviation weather will be conducted including interpreting charts and weather theory. This course will prepare students for the ADX FAA knowledge test. Students must be age 21 to receive permission to enroll. Fee: Additional lab fee. Prerequisites: AVN 210, 310, and FLT 119, and permission of the Department Chair. (3 units; Fall)

In-depth study of airline cross-country flight operations. This course will analyze performance limitations including applying MELs and CDLs, runway analysis charts, NOTAMs, PIREPs, RVR reports, operations around hazardous weather, and weight and balance considerations unique to large transport aircraft. Students will be expected to apply weather theory knowledge, aircraft system limitations and airline operation objectives to successful plan flights. Students will be introduced to airline quality FAA approved Air Carrier Operation Specifications and Dispatch Operating Manuals. Students must be age 21 to enroll. Prerequisite: DSP 330. This course studies the physical principles of airplane aerodynamics. Course involves examining the factors affecting aircraft performance, stability and control, and special flight conditions often experienced by commercial pilots of fixed-wing aircraft. Emphasized is stall/spin awareness and recovery, and commercial aircraft design and construction issues.
