Program Intro

Accountants help people and businesses thrive by crunching numbers and advising their clients on how to be more profitable. CBU's accounting coursework provides students with the skills for a successful career and the knowledge necessary to successfully complete the CPA and CMA exams. The stability of an accounting career can be an asset in today’s not-so-reliable job market.

Why Study Accounting at CBU?

Receive personal attention from faculty

Accounting professors strive to know each student individually. They have years of practical experience in the industry and use real-life accounting issues in the classroom. Our “hands on” approach means students perform the analysis and work that would be expected in the business environment.

Join a community of accountants

Students can join the on-campus Accounting Society or the state-wide California Society of CPAs to not only enjoy a fun social experience with other like-minded people but to learn networking, recruiting and business skills.

Become part of a legacy of professionals

Some of the highly respected firms that have actively recruited and hired our graduates include the “Big Four” — Ernst & Young, Deloitte & Touche, KPMG and PwC—as well as several mid-sized regional and local CPA firms. CPA firms who have hired our students state that they are better prepared for the workplace than those from other institutions throughout Southern California.

Mark

I chose to study accounting because it is very satisfying to be able to work hard and have a tangible product at the end of the day. I have been working at a firm as an intern for two years now. I have been able to see the application of almost everything taught in classes so far. I have grown so much throughout my time in the CBU accounting program. I would not trade my time or money spent here for anything in the world.

Leilani Salter

I chose accounting as my major after I took Principles 1 and just fell in love with it. It’s difficult and challenging but once I get to the end and find the answer it is so satisfying and I feel very accomplished. I have always loved math so this really fit perfectly for me and my personality. Accounting is kind of like law—it’s competitive and elite. It is a rewarding field of study and has become more of a passion and something fun I get to do.

Christopher Smith

My major in accounting has helped me obtain a position with the fifth largest accountancy network firm in the world. I always had a passion for math and numbers but knew I was not interested in teaching math. Accounting clicked for me right away, and I knew this was the path for me.
