Data has become the language of the world. It’s everywhere. With a degree in statistics
and data analytics, students will be fluent in today’s high-tech economy. In the scope
of a career as a data scientist, students can work in such varied fields as climatology,
ecology and more. The future belongs to data mining scientists who engineer and apply
statistical analysis to interdisciplinary problems.
Learn through experience At CBU, we’re pushing the envelope, discovering new algorithms and finding new patterns
and insights amid vast broadband fields of zeros and ones, things no mind has seen
before. This major is for students who want to pursue a challenging and rewarding
career that uses their natural problem-solving abilities and technological skills
to solve “real world” problems.
Use the latest technology CBU faculty and staff have access to supercomputers located all over the country,
and can model, simulate and predict using big sample data that is bootstrapped or
resampled thousands of times from these supercomputers. This means that CBU students are
trained at the bleeding edge of technology and can use the most advanced software
available.
Statistical Computing I
STA 210
An introduction to data mining, management and statistical programming techniques
using comprehensive and widely available tools.
Research and Experimental Design
STA 303
This course studies experimental designs with corresponding models and analyses critical
for students in the empirical sciences.
Data Visualization
STA 360
This course provides the tools to create and critically evaluate data visualizations.
Focus will be on statistical graphics, graphics that display statistical data.
Student Learning Outcomes
Have a solid foundation of mathematical and statistical processes at a level comparable
to that of students graduating with a BA/BS in Statistics at other universities. Processes
should include (but are not limited to) a proficiency in collection, organization,
design, and drawing inferences from data using appropriate statistical methodology
and problem solving skills.
Demonstrate their ability to apply statistics in other fields at an appropriate level
and demonstrate their ability to apply knowledge acquired from their major to real
world models.
Take the next step toward living your purpose
As you make decisions about college, keep in mind the full social, spiritual and educational
experience awaiting you at CBU. Here, you will be supported by professors, staff and
fellow students who will help you discover your strengths and challenge you to do
more than you ever thought you could. Let us equip you with the education, training
and opportunities you'll need to start making a unique difference doing what you love.

Student Testimonials
"I fell in love with statistics when I took an AP Statistics class in high school.
I like the community here among fellow stats students, and the relationships I have
with my professors. I'm hoping to become a business or financial analyst, and the
math and stats professors go above and beyond to make sure that I am thriving not
only at CBU but in my future career." Jordan Howard, 2018
"I came to CBU undeclared and after my first Intro to Statistics class I was hooked
by the opportunities the quantitative reasoning opened up for me. I chose to pursue
a career in statistics because it provides me with the opportunity to analyze data
from so many different fields. Everyone in the statistics program at CBU is there
to see you succeed and excel to your highest level and then past that point. I am
so thankful to have been apart of this program, it has been incredible!" Bryce Benlian, 2018
"I really enjoy the community this program offers. I felt like the professors cared
about my future, and they were a huge help in my search for a future career. I enjoy
using research to help improve society and I hope to continue in the research field." Keira Burgeson, 2018

Professorof Mathematics
Forty-two years ago, God called me out of a comfortable job in research chemistry
into a worldwide ministry in the mathematical sciences. God’s call drew me to travel,
administrate and coordinate national and international teams of scientists and educators
in academic institutions across the former Soviet Union, China, the Caribbean and
even 40 miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska.
In 2005, I accepted the Christ as my Lord and Savior through John chapter 11, the
Lazarus story. I believe that Christian teachers should be God’s stewards. When I
finished my Ph.D. program in UC Irvine, God convicted me that I would be called to
give an account of how I have administered everything I've been given. As a steward,
I would not like to lose any student so that none of them would fall behind.
