President Ellis delivers his 2019 State of the University address

Riverside, Calif. (Sept. 3, 2019) — Dr. Ronald L. Ellis, president of California Baptist University, delivered his 2019 State of the University video address at two chapel services on Sept 3.

The address reported on key accomplishments at CBU over the past year. Ellis also encouraged students to be diligent in their studies and in their pursuit of community at CBU.

“At CBU we believe each person is created for a purpose. The Christ-centered CBU experience aims to combine top quality academics with purposeful spiritual and social development opportunities,” Ellis said in the address. “One of the important ways we strive to achieve these goals is through the university’s student outcomes known as the ‘Core Four.’ These are designed to help all students become: Biblically Rooted, Academically Prepared, Globally Minded, and Equipped to Serve.”

Ellis also noted that CBU aims to be a University committed to the Great Commission where, “one’s gifts and talents demonstrate the love of Christ in the local community and beyond.”

“CBU is recognized nationally as a leader in mobilization, offering students many opportunities to expand their horizons and participate in service projects at home and abroad,” Ellis said. “Each year, hundreds of students participate in short-term service-learning projects known as International Service Projects.”

Ellis also reflected on CBU’s move to NCAA Division I in 2018.

“NCAA Division I is the pinnacle of intercollegiate athletics and making the transition to full membership represents a significant step forward for CBU. It’s another way CBU continually demonstrates the pursuit of excellence,” Ellis said.

“Taken together, the many facets of the Lancer Nation—in academics, in athletics, and in service around the world—help to strengthen CBU's reputation as a premier comprehensive Christian university,” Ellis said. “It’s my hope that every member of the Lancer Nation will seek and pursue new opportunities—to learn, to serve and to fully “Live Your Purpose®!”
