Dr. Judd Bonner named dean of Collinsworth School of Music at CBU
RIVERSIDE (April 24, 2012) – Dr. Judd Bonner has been named dean of the Shelby and Ferne Collinsworth School
of Music, California Baptist University officials announced today. He has been associate
dean of the acclaimed music school since 2006.
Bonner will begin his new duties on May 21, one day following the retirement of Dr.
Gary Bonner, the school's first dean and the new dean's father.
"I am delighted that Dr. Judd Bonner is moving into the dean's position in the School
of Music," said Dr. Jonathan Parker, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
at CBU. "As associate dean for the last six years Judd has proven himself to be an
effective administrator, overseeing many of the school's day-to-day operations."
Parker also cited Bonner's "excellent job leading the Male Chorale" at CBU as important
preparation for conducting the music school's premier performance group. "I am anticipating
that his leadership of the University Choir and Orchestra will bring that group to
even higher levels of performance," Parker said. "Students look to Judd as a leader
and they appreciate the high bar that he sets for each and every performance."
Bonner received a Bachelor of Arts and teaching credential in English with supplementary
authorization in music from Azusa Pacific University and a Master of Arts in English
from California Polytechnic University in Pomona. He received the Doctor of Musical
Arts in conducting from Claremont Graduate University.
Bonner first taught at CBU as an adjunct professor of music in 2002 and became a
fulltime faculty member the following year. Prior to coming to CBU, he taught at Covina
High School from 1991-2003.
