CBU to celebrate Parent and Family Weekend
Riverside, Calif. (Nov. 8, 2023) — California Baptist University is busy preparing for the thousands of visitors expected at Parent and Family Weekend on Nov. 10-11.
The weekend offers numerous chances for families to connect with their students and make memories together.
“Parent and Family Weekend is an exciting time for students, families and the Lancer nation to gather and celebrate,” said Joshua Moss, senior director of alumni, parent and donor engagement. “This event creates meaningful opportunities for parents and students to enjoy a variety of campus activities and embrace the college experience and the community CBU offers.”
On Friday, visitors have an opportunity to tour academic colleges and schools and meet the deans. Spiritual Life will hold an Equip to Serve Fair, where students, parents and families can learn about opportunities to serve at local organizations such as Path of Life and Olive Crest.
In the evening, a pregame party before the men’s basketball game will feature live music, food trucks, and attractions. On the court, the Lancers will face Jackson State University.
Saturday morning, families can participate in a worship session and a kickboxing workout.
Lancer athletic teams competing that day comprise volleyball, men’s water polo and wrestling.
Saturday afternoon, the Block Party on the Front Lawn features food trucks, music and other attractions.
The day ends with the Fortuna Bowl, the annual intramural flag football championship that started in 1991 and is one of the largest events on campus. This year, 32 teams competed in the women’s and men’s leagues with more than 470 participants — the most ever.
Students and families will fill the bleachers Nov. 11 to watch teams fight for the championship title. This year, Hail Mary’s will face Twinkle Toesies in the women’s game and Rings by Spring face Twinkle Toes in the men’s.
“We are excited to continue this tradition,” said Tyler Cox, senior director of campus recreation. “We are ecstatic with the level of participation from the student body and looking forward to the future growth of flag football at CBU.”
After the final game, fireworks will end the night.
