Video Celebrates 20 Years of Ellis Presidency At CBU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Nov. 6, 2014)—California Baptist University will host alumni and friends at Homecoming & Family Weekend Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7-8. About 7,000 people attended the weekend's events last fall.

This year's schedule offers a variety of activities for all ages.

On Friday afternoon, an Anniversary Reunion Tea will honor members of the classes of 1954, 1964 and 1989 who are celebrating their 60th, 50th and 25th reunions.

Later that evening, the annual Alumni Awards Dinner takes places in the Recreation Center. Awards will be presented to Eva De La Rosa ('02 and '07), recipient of the Distinguished Service in Christian Ministry award; Josh Moss ('03 and '07), recipient of the Young Alumni Achievement Award; Sue Etheridge ('68), recipient of the Alumna of the Year award; and Dr. James Forkum ('69), the Lancer Medal for Lifetime Achievement. The dinner will feature food with an international flare. Entertainment will be provided by Christian recording artist Jonathan Thulin.

Friday's festivities will conclude with the Dalian University Chinese Orchestra performing a concert on the front lawn at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, a meeting of the Alumni Association will be held in the Copenbarger Dining Room in the Yeager Center at 8:30 a.m. The inaugural FLAApjack Breakfast will be presented by the Lancer Athletics Association at 9:30 a.m. on the Van Dyne Lawn.

A block party scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. will feature the Homecoming Marketplace, food trucks, inflatable attractions for children, games, pony rides, live entertainment and interactive academic booths on the Front Lawn. Campus tours also will be available.

Food truck vendors will include Belly BomZ (Korean chicken wings and sliders); Street Foods Co. (Mexican and seafood); Slummin' Gourmet (shrimp tacos and Kobe beef sliders); Let's Roll It (sushi and Korean barbecue); Grilled Cheese Truck (grilled cheese); Viking Truck (gourmet sausages and brats); My Delight Cupcakery (cupcakes); Kona Ice (shaved ice); Kettle Masters of America (kettle corn) and Frijolitos Mobile Coffee Shop (coffee).

CBU's soccer teams will both compete against Point Loma, with the men's game at 11 a.m. and the women's team playing at 1:30 p.m. The women's volleyball team will compete against BYU Hawaii at 2 p.m.

Preceding the Fortuna Bowl, a meet and greet with Kermit Alexander and other former NFL players at 5 p.m. will be held at the Alumni Tent. The championship for men's and women's intramural football will kick off at 6:30 p.m. Last year, about 3,500 people packed the bleachers.

The weekend will close with a fireworks show immediately following the Fortuna Bowl championship game.
