CBU Students Awarded Acec Scholarships
RIVERSIDE (Feb. 18, 2013)—Two California Baptist University students have been awarded scholarships by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). The organization awarded five undergraduate scholarships in California.
Emily Brown and Joshua Duvall, both junior civil engineering majors, won the scholarships from a pool of applicants screened and selected by reviewers. Reviewers also selected Brown as one of two applicants to nominate for a national scholarship. She will compete against other state nominees.
"In California, our application reviewers select the students who scored the highest based on the ACEC criteria to nominate for the ACEC competition," said Monica Laplander, ACEC California communications and membership coordinator.
Applicants needed a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 in engineering and land surveying courses to qualify for the state scholarship (a 3.5 for the national competition), a recommendation, a 500-word essay, work experience and extracurricular activities.
Brown received a $5,000 scholarship, while Duvall was awarded a $2,000 scholarship.
