CBU names Hong Associate VP of Technology
RIVERSIDE (February 15, 2012) – Dr. Tran Hong has been named as Associate Vice President of Technology at California
Baptist University. Hong began his new duties February 1.
A scholar and practitioner with more than 20 years of experience in information technology,
Hong became Dean of Technology for Online and Professional Studies at CBU in 2010.
His professional background includes software development, network infrastructure,
instructional technologies, distance education, telecommunications, strategic use
of emerging technologies and management.
Dr. David Poole, Vice President for Online and Professional Studies, said, "Dr. Hong
brings exceptional leadership and insight to this position. I look forward to working
with him in this expanded role as he develops the next phase of information technology
organization and infrastructure at CBU."
Hong previously served as Information Technology Director at Irvine Valley College
(IVC) in Orange County, CA. During his tenure at IVC, he was credited with transitioning
the campus to wireless technology, developing a network infrastructure supporting
more than 16,000 students, increasing customer satisfaction of technology from 64%
in 2004 to 86% in 2009, and implementing a document management system.
An advocate of local schools, Hong served as Vice-Chairman of the City of Tustin Bond
Oversight Committee from 2009-2011. He also served as technology advisor on modernization
projects for the Tustin Unified School District in 2009. He currently is a member
of the Dell Platinum Advisory Council.
Hong holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics, a Master of
Business Administration in Technology Management, and a Doctor of Education in Educational
Leadership from California State University, Fullerton.
