CBU Campus Lock-down Lifted
RIVERSIDE (April 18, 2017) -- California Baptist University experienced a brief lock-down Tuesday evening when Riverside Police notified campus authorities that at least two armed suspects had entered the campus.
CBU Public Safety officers sent a lock-down message via the CBU emergency notification system at 8:59 p.m., instructing everyone on campus to “stay inside, lock doors, shelter in place.” The message was sent via email, internet and opt-in text notifications.
Riverside police closed off a portion of Diana Avenue along the south side of the CBU campus as officers searched the area around the CBU Events Center. A CBU Public Safety official said Riverside police eventually apprehended three subjects.
A subsequent notice to the campus community at 9:18 p.m. announced, “Police have apprehended all suspects. All lock downs are lifted.”
Preliminary reports indicate the suspects were among five persons fleeing a police pursuit following an armed robbery in another part of Riverside. After all of the suspects were taken into custody, police continued searching for weapons.
Campus officials report there were no injuries and no property damage.
