Dr. Brian Bovee, associate professor of computer information technology: Gamifying Online Discussions: A Model for Improving Engagement Using Leaderboards. Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) in Salt Lake City on Aug. 16. The research paper received the award of top 25% of complete papers.
Dr. Robert Pate, professor of psychology: co-presented The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Training: Ethical and Practical Considerations and Drawbacks. A two-part continuing education workshop at the National Council for Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology summer meeting in Seattle on Aug. 6-7.
Professional Accolades
Sarah Millikan, director of nursing student services, was named employee of the month for September. Her nomination included the following statements: “As the Nursing Student Services Director, Sarah feels the students always comes first. She is exceptional at helping students with concerns and questions when it comes to applying to the Nursing program. Sarah has also developed relationships across the university and has been on several task forces to increase student retention. She maintains a calm and understanding attitude when working with others and is the epitome of collaboration.”
Making an Impact
Dr. Jennifer Cruz, associate professor of music, participated in the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Acqui Terme, Italy, on July 1-14 and the Montecito International Music Festival in Thousand Oaks, California, on July 17-26. For both events, Cruz presented in music clinics, conducted piano master classes, and coached festival participants from high school to collegiate level. Additionally, she was a featured soloist and collaborative artist for the International Faculty Concert series at the InterHarmony Festival. She also performed as a featured soloist in the Piano Faculty Showcase at the Montecito Festival.
Student Highlights
Nearly 40 Campus Recreation student interns and 11 professional staff participated in the Monroe Street landscaping service project on the CBU campus on Aug. 16. Facilities and Planning Services, Jim Sheer, manager of grounds and landscaping, and Ed Schmachtenberger, athletics grounds and outdoor facilities manager, coordinated the project, which consisted of planting approximately 200 plants and spreading over 30 cubic yards of mulch.
Personal Milestones
Cierra Sao, graduate admissions counselor, and her husband, Brandon, welcomed a daughter on July 14. Zoe Kalea Sao weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces and measured 19.5 inches.
