Dr. Jodi Dickert, professor of athletic training, Lisa Friesen, associate professor of allied health professions, Dr. Nicole MacDonald, professor of athletic training, gave a tactical combat/emergency casualty care training for the U.S. Coast Guard station LA/Long Beach in San Pedro on Aug. 27. Nearly 30 coast guard men and women participated in the training. The training covered skills in treating massive hemorrhage and airway obstruction.

Melissa Workman, senior director of advancement operations: moderated sessions Visualizing a Successful Migration: How the University of Arizona Foundation Effectively Transitioned Business Intelligence Reporting Tools and Change Can’t Wait (and neither could discovery): How American University Powered a Transformative Campaign with Modern Wealth Screening. Association of Advancement Professionals (AASP) Summit in Reno, Nevada, on Sept. 9-12. Workman also served on the AASP 2025 Summit program committee.

Dr. Ted Murcray, associate professor of education: keynote Faith Integration in Academia: Bridging the Sunday-Monday Gap. Fall Faculty Workshop at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, on Aug. 3.

Dr. Jiliang Li

Dr. Jiliang Li, assistant professor of civil engineering, presented an in-class teaching demo of soil mechanics mini lecture at Cal Poly Pomona before the American Society of Civil Engineers ExCEEd exemplary teaching instructors and other university professors. He received a certificate for completing the mini 2025 ASCE Excellence in Civil Engineering Education (ExCEEd).

CBU continues to be blessed with generous donors – alumni, parents, friends, foundations, faculty, staff and others. University Advancement is pleased to announce the following gifts and gift commitments from generous friends of Lancer Nation given during August 2025.

 

  • $140,000 gift commitment to CBU’s Institute for Great Commission Research
  • $85,000 estate gift commitment to establish a new endowed scholarship for the School of Christian Ministries
  • $50,000 grant award supporting reduced client fees to CBU’s Psychological Services of Riverside (College of Behavioral and Social Sciences)
  • $37,500 gift commitment to men’s basketball
  • $37,500 gift commitment to men’s baseball
  • $25,000 gift commitment to establish a double major endowed scholarship, to be matched by a private donor, and then matched by CBU institutional funds – quadrupling the investment in CBU
  • $15,000 gift to an existing double major endowed scholarship, in the Robert K. Jabs School of Business, to be matched by a private donor, and then matched by CBU institutional funds – quadrupling the investment in CBU
  • $10,286 gift of stock for CBU’s Shelby and Ferne Collinsworth School of Performing Arts Dean's Excellence Fund

Ted

Athletic training graduate students screen young athletes.

CBU’s Master of Science in Athletic Training program partnered with Who We Play For (a nonprofit bringing awareness to congenital heart defects in young athletes) and Cardiac Insight (an ECG manufacturer) in providing ECG screenings for area athletes. The first event was at Dodger Stadium on July 19. Heather MacDonald, an exercise science student, Ligia Herrera, a MSAT second year student, and Dr. Nicole MacDonald, professor of athletic training, conducted ECGs on about 25 LA high school athletes. The second event was at LA Galaxy stadium to screen its academy players, ages 10-18, on Aug. 2. Eleven MSAT students and MacDonald tested about 125 youths.
