Dr. Jiliang Li, assistant professor of civil engineering: poster Connection of the Teaching, Learning and Instructions of Material Science and Engineering Courses with Different Courses on Engineering Subjects. Li co-conducted the research, and it was presented on his behalf at the 2024 ASEE Annual Conference, in Portland, Oregon, on June 23-26.

Christopher Kern, associate professor of photography, mentored two emerging photographers as part of The Bridge Mentorship Program through the American Society of Media Photographers - Los Angeles. The 16-week mentorship culminated in a final exhibition on Oct. 5 at The Space at Icon in Los Angeles.

Dr. Robert LaChausse

Dr. Robert LaChausse, professor of public health, was chair of the Opioid Prevention and Intervention Workgroup for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, Division for Advancing Prevention and Treatment. This expert workgroup developed national recommendations presented in Preventing Opioid Use and Overdose in School-Age Youth.

Evelen Ramirez

Evelen Ramirez, a Master of Public Health student, presented a Feeding America nutrition education class. Under the guidance of Natalie Reed, assistant professor of nutrition, and for completion of her final project for Principles of Community Nutrition, Ramirez taught a class on healthy snacks to elementary aged kids at the Feeding America Education Center on Sept. 21.

Seth Allen VanBuskirk

Patty VanBuskirk, department secretary for communication arts, and her husband, Scott, welcomed a grandson on Sept. 28. Seth Allen VanBuskirk weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce and measured 20.5 inches. His parents are Brandon (’14) and Stephanie (Lee, ’13) VanBuskirk.
