The poster came in third place in the Research category. 28th Sigma So Cal Odyssey Research Conference in San Diego on Oct. 3-4. They also presented Promoting Professionalism: Navigating Incivility and Fostering Collegiality in Nursing Academia. CACN/COADN Joint Conference in Los Angeles on Oct. 24.
Dr. Amanie Abdelmessih, professor of mechanical engineering: Cooling of Electronics by Direct Contact with Liquids. ASME InterPACK 2024 in San Jose, California, on Oct. 8-10. David Delgado, Ezry Lopez, Nathaniel Michael, Grant Napierala and Nicholas Ramos, all mechanical engineering seniors at the time, assisted with the research. The article was also published in the proceedings of the ASME InterPACK. In addition, Abdelmessih, served as Track 1 co-organizer at the conference.
Professional Accolades
Dr. Nathan Iverson, associate professor of psychology, received the Advocacy & Inclusion Award at the Latinos in I-O Psychology conference in Riverside on Oct 26.
Dr. Ronald L. Ellis and Linda Cella
Linda Cella, accounts payable technician in Accounting, was named employee of the month for November. Her nomination included the following statements: “Linda has exceptional performance in customer service, which has consistently exceeded expectations. She actively listens to customers’ needs and concerns, responds promptly, and articulates solutions clearly and professionally. … Her initiative not only drives personal success but also positively impacts the department as a whole, making her an invaluable asset to the team.”
Making an Impact
Twenty students from three programs in the College of Health Science – nutrition and food sciences, speech-language pathology and physician assistant studies – joined Keck School of Pharmacy students and community pharmacists to serve the older adult population at Mt. San Antonio Gardens in Pomona on Oct. 19. More than 24 residents attended with the goal of healthy lifestyle and fall prevention: health screenings, medication review, speech and swallowing education, and nutritional education to help the community age well. CBU students were joined by four CBU faculty along with the onsite providers, occupational, physical therapy, audiology and the clinic providers.
Sonya Singh
Sonya Singh, instructor of journalism, helped plan, co-host and moderate the Fall Forum for the Baptist Communicators Association. The two-hour program featured four professional development sessions and student awards and streamed live from the International Mission Board in Richmond, Virginia, on Oct. 17.
Christopher Kern
Christopher Kern, associate professor of photography, is chair of the West Chapter of the Society for Photography Education and led the peer review committee and co-chaired the SPE West x Southwest Regional Conference in Ogden, Utah, on Oct. 18-19. Kern also conducted peer reviews of both undergraduate and graduate photography portfolios throughout the conference.
Student Highlights
Priscilla Lee
Eight chemical engineering and biomedical engineering students attended the AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers) annual student conference in San Diego on Oct. 25-28. Four presented the Mock Heart Module developed for the AIChE K-12 STEM Outreach Competition. Priscilla Lee, a chemical engineering student, also presented her internship research at the poster competition.
