Kristin Beinschroth, assistant professor of radiologic sciences: guest on the Skeleton Crew podcast, episode titled The Future of The Rad Tech Career (season 1, episode 19). The episode covered the evolving landscape of radiologic sciences, the future of radiologic education, and strategies to help radiologic technologists for success.
Professional Accolades
Christine Lee Smith, lecturer of photography, has a photography exhibition at the Transitions Gallery at Life Pacific University, San Dimas. Digital Ineffable will be open until the end of the year.
Vivian Quezada, senior communications manager, was named employee of the month for November. Her nomination included the following statements: “Vivian is a dedicated team member. She contributes to a positive work culture in the Marketing and Communication’s department and to the CBU campus overall. She provides valid and valuable input on a variety of topics and perspectives; she considers the larger implications of a topic or issue when she is working on a project; and she is open to sharing her institutional knowledge as needed in order to see the department and CBU succeed.”
The Marketing and Communication division received a Polaris Award from the Public Relations Society of America Inland Empire chapter in Fontana on Nov. 2. The award was for Public Relations in the announcement of the $28.5 million gift to CBU.
Making an Impact
Students in the Division of Natural and Mathematical Sciences along with Laura Flood, administrative secretary for Natural and Mathematical Sciences, volunteered for Mayor Patricia Lock-Dawson’s Beautify Riverside Initiative by cleaning up the Monarch Butterfly Garden on Oct. 27.
Student Highlights
The Department of Modern Languages and Literature hosted its annual Unhappy Hour on Oct. 25. More than 115 students played literary trivia and read their poetry and short stories.
The Lancer Media Group received four Grand Prizes at the Baptist Communicators Association’s Fall Forum on Oct. 12. CBU earned the top overall prize in Exceptional Photography for The Play That Goes Wrong, News Writing for Afghan refugees at local school share their stories, Feature Writing for Thank You, Stranger and Publication Design for Pursuit magazine, Fall 2022. The group received additional awards, including first place in yearbook cover design, news and feature writing, social media post, portraiture and website.
Kinesiology graduate students presented their data from four projects at the Southwest Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine’s annual conference in Costa Mesa, California. Students were: Isaac Sumaran, Dong Nyeuck Seo, Geoff Dorsett, Joslyn Leage, Carmen Wardwell, Dea Sik Song and Karolina Iznerowicz. Faculty mentors were Dr. Jong-Kyung Kim, professor of exercise science, Dr. Bill Boyer, associate professor of kinesiology, and Dr. Trevor Gillum, professor of kinesiology. Dorsett won the student research award competition with his project, Repeated short cold water immersions are sufficient to habituate to the cold, but do not lead to adaptations during exercise in normobaric hypoxia.
CBU’s chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) received the Aaron Norris Spirit of PR award from PRSA Inland Empire at an award ceremony on Nov. 2. The student group was honored for its continued support of the PRSAIE chapter, by serving as interns, volunteers and employees of PRSAIE member organizations. Dr. Mary Ann Pearson, professor of communication, alumni Chase Burns and Dr. Victoria Brodie, associate professor of public relations, accepted the award. Additionally, PRSSA chapter and Lancer PR received a Capella award in Community Relations for the Love LMG campaign. The Department of Communication Arts also won a Capella in Community Relations for a Student Outreach campaign.
Personal Milestones
Jonathan Barnes, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, and his wife, Sarah, welcomed a son on Oct. 8. Timothy David Barnes weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces and measured 20 inches. He joins Millie, 4, and Moses, 2.
Dr. Nathanael Heyman, professor of biological sciences, completed the Kodiak Ultra Marathons on Oct. 13-14. He circled Big Bear Lake on mountain trails totaling 102.9 miles and 17,400 feet of elevation gain in 27 hours and 33 minutes. He finished first out of 31 runners in his age group. His daughter, Natania Heyman, 10, finished first in her age group in the 10K trail run on Oct. 15.
