Dr. Mario Oyanader, professor of chemical engineering, Dr. Michael Sill, associate professor of mathematics, and Dr. Elisabeth Murillo, associate professor of aviation science, have been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Grant of $500,000. This marks the first NSF research grant awarded to CBU. The "3 Pasos" (3 Steps) Program is dedicated to enhancing the recruitment and retention of students from underrepresented groups in STEM disciplines at CBU.

Shakespeare Association of America Annual (SAA) Conference in Portland, Oregon, on April 11. It was the first SAA seminar to focus on Asian Shakespeares.

John Marselus and Missionary Aviation Leadership

Dr. John Marselus, professor of aviation science, led the sixth Missionary Aviation Leadership Summit in Waxhaw, N.C., on April 8-9. Presidents and chief of operations of the five largest missionary aviation organizations attended. Topics included interoperability and joint operations throughout the world.

Communication sciences and disorders students

Ten communication sciences and disorders undergraduate students and Dr. Namhee Kim, professor of communication sciences and disorders, provided hearing screenings and prevention consultations at the Health and Wellness Expo. The event was hosted by Wind of the Spirit Worship Center in Riverside on April 20.

Concrete Canoe

CBU ASCE students

CBU’s American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) student chapter participated in the Pacific SouthWest Symposium at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, from April 3 to 6. Thirty CBU students competed against 13 other schools in various technical and non-technical events, including steel bridge, concrete canoe, surveying and sports competitions. The CBU team placed second in Kan Jam and fifth in both the men’s and coed races of the concrete canoe competitions.

Veterans Resource Center

 

The Veterans Resource Center hosted the Spring 2024 Veterans and Military Dependent Graduation Recognition Ceremony on April 19. Seventy-six veterans and military dependents were recognized for receiving their degrees the following week.

Timothy Cowan, a marketing junior, scored high on his Microsoft PowerPoint 365 certification exam and was named California State Champion. He was invited to compete in Certiport’s 2024 Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship in Orlando, Florida, on June 17-19.

Luke Peters (’23) passed the Financial Mathematics actuarial examination (Exam FM) administered by the Society of Actuaries in December 2023.

Philip Solt, a physician assistant studies graduate student, was selected for the Veterans Caucus U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, and Navy Memorial Scholarship. It was presented at the National PA conference American Academy of Physician Assistants 2024 in Houston on May 20.

Graphic design students took home a number of awards at the District 15 American Advertising Awards. CBU received 5 of 7 Golds: Joseph Suzuki, Hannah Krispin, Kyle Romero and Katelyn Wong.
