Dr. Ronald Ellis and Thomas Chavez
Thomas Chavez, director of academic advising and lead credential analyst in the School of Education, was named employee of the month for March. His nomination included the following statements: “Thomas’ deepened understanding of CTC accreditation has led to increased initiative and support. His work is accurate and his knowledge related to CTC requirements is critical for helping the School of Education maintain compliance. ... Thomas consistently models Christ-like love, empathy and professionalism, seeking to understand others and respond with grace, honor and care.”

Making an Impact

CBU continues to be blessed with generous donors — alumni, parents, friends, foundations, faculty, staff and others. University Advancement is pleased to announce the following gifts and gift commitments from generous friends of Lancer Nation given January 2026.
- $30,000 gift commitment to an existing double major endowed scholarship
- $12,500 gift to establish a double major endowed scholarship, to be matched by a private donor, and then matched again by CBU institutional funds – quadrupling the investment in CBU
- Two $10,000 gift commitments supporting the College of Engineering Dean’s Excellence Fund
- $10,000 gift supporting the Lancer Athletics STUNT team

Grace Salcido
Grace Salcido, school counseling graduate student, was recently selected to serve on a national advisory group with the College Board, becoming the first graduate student from Southern California to be selected. This board helps shape the landscape of school counseling nationwide and informs the College Board on key decisions impacting schools and students. Salcido will serve a two-year term.

CBU is featured in a recently released case study from Laserfiche: California Baptist University Streamlines Student Records. Contributors to the study include Adam Martinez, assistant registrar, Jeff Tennis, director of academic services operations, and Rich Simpson, university registrar.

The Career Center will host fairs this spring and invites faculty and staff to share these opportunities with students. These events are a great way for students to explore career paths, connect with employers, discover internships, full-time roles and summer opportunities. Encourage students to stop by, bring copies of their resume and come ready to introduce themselves to employers.
