Grants
Margaret Matthews, assistant professor of nursing, and Dr. Teresa Hamilton, professor of nursing: Received a $210,000 grant through the Song-Brown Healthcare Workforce Training Act from the California Department of Health Care Access and Information. The grant will be used in the Master of Science entry-level Nursing program and to fund student scholarships.

Dr. Andrés D. Vera, assistant professor of New Testament: contributed over 45 articles in the Baker Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words, edited by Tremper Longman III and Mark Strauss (BakerBooks, 2023) The dictionary offers up-to-date scholarship on the meaning of Hebrew and Greek terms and the English words to translate them.

Western Regional Conference on Christianity and Literature at Azusa Pacific University on March 16-18.
Dr. John Marselus, professor of aviation science: Guest faculty for University of Southern California Incident Investigation/Analysis course on March 22. Topics included Safety Management System and U.S. Air Force investigations he conducted in his military career. The students included leadership from the Ministry of Defense for the Hungarian Air Force, Saudi Arabia Aviation Investigation Bureau and Chevron.
Dr. Mary Ann Pearson, professor of communication: Applying Ethics to Public Relations webinar. Orange County chapter of the Public Relations Society of America on March 20.

Duncan Simcoe, professor visual arts: Fade to Black: Recent Work by Duncan Simcoe. Image magazine (Issue 115). Simcoe’s art is the subject of an article written by Gordon Fuglie, a museum director and curator. Simcoe’s work is also the issue’s cover art.
Professional Accolades
Dr. Philip Breitenbucher, assistant professor of social work: defended his dissertation — The factors that influence the use of cloud-based technology in the administration of social work field education: An application of the Technology Acceptance Model — on March 13. Breitenbucher is the first graduate of the Ed.D. Organizational Change and Administration program at CBU.
Kelly Palmer, administrative assistant I for Student Services, was named employee of the month for April. Her nomination form included the following statements: “Kelly goes above and beyond with students and their families in times of need. She’s especially patient and kind in her approach to students who have undergone something difficult. Kelly is extremely efficient. She is highly motivated and wants to help however she can, and she’s constantly looking to take on new projects."
Making an Impact
Zachary Bortot, associate professor of theatre: directed An Almost Holy Picture for New Threads Theatre Company.
Ruth Noemy Wheeler, instructor of music: Conducted the premiere of MUSE with the Corona Symphony Orchestra on March 11. MUSE, 10-minute orchestral celebration, is composed by Dr. Josh Rodriguez, associate professor of music theory and composition.
Kristin Beinschroth, assistant professor of radiologic sciences: elected vice chair and education chapter delegate for the American Society of Radiologic Technologists House of Delegates. The 2-year-term as delegate starts July 1 and the 1-year-term as vice chair starts July 1, 2024.
