Dr. Lisa Bursch, professor of nursing, received $91,000 from the Song-Brown Healthcare Workforce Training Program, part of the California Department of Health Care Access and Information. The grant supports students admitted into the family nurse practitioner program.

Dr. Philip Breitenbucher

Dr. Philip Breitenbucher, associate professor of social work, has secured an additional $1,065,000 for the Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration Grant and $870,000 for the School-Based Mental Health Program — both funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Initially awarded a two-year grant, the programs recently received funding for three more years. In partnership with the Riverside County Office of Education, these initiatives aim to increase credentialed mental health professionals in high-need districts, providing a $20,000 scholarship for each student intern.

Alexis DeAlba, Laura Smith and Kyle Taylor, all students in the Jabs School of Business, placed in the top 10 PowerPoint scores in the state on the Microsoft Office specialist certification exam. Rich Simpson, university registrar, and David Carter, and adjunct professor of business law, who taught the students, each received an outstanding educator certificate.

Charlotte Rae Kaplan

David Kaplan, adjunct professor of journalism and public relations, and his wife, Cristina, welcomed a daughter on Feb. 13. Charlotte Rae Kaplan weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 21.5 inches long.
