Dr. Mark Kim, associate professor of data science and computer science, and Dr. Esther Lee, associate professor of statistics, have been awarded a federal subcontract through HII Mission Technologies Corp. for $168,750. Their project aims to design and develop a data-driven Decision Support System (DSS) for the Inland Empire Tech Bridge. The DSS is intended to accelerate innovation and technology commercialization in the Inland Empire and Southern California region.

Dr. Kendra Flores-Carter

Dr. Kendra Flores-Carter, associate professor of social work, has been awarded a contract for $20,000 from Diversity Uplifts Inc., as she assists San Bernardino First 5 with county wide data collection efforts and focus groups data analysis. This contract aims to improve prenatal outcomes by diversifying the prenatal workforce to ensure African American women receive culturally enhanced prenatal care. Flores-Carter will serve as the principal investigator to support the San Bernardino County Maternal Health Network’s (MHN) strategic plan of establishing a data collection effort that can be used throughout the MHN.

Dr. Dayna Herrera, professor of nursing, Dr. Jolene Dickert, professor of athletic training, Dr. Heather Ontiveros, associate professor of physician assistant studies, and Dr. Nicole MacDonald, professor of athletic training, presented on the development and implementation of the interprofessional education program at CBU to the Point Loma Nazarene University College of Health Science faculty on Dec. 8. The CBU faculty, part of CBU’s Interprofessional Education Committee (Called2Collaborate), offered tips on implementing the program at PLNU.

Dr. Erin Smith

Dr. Erin Smith, Fletcher Jones endowed professor of research: Thoughtful Science Engagement with Faith Communities: Lessons from the Field. The presentation was part of the panel Thinking outside of the box: Science engagement and literacy in faith communities. Annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Denver on Feb. 15-17.

Dr. Keanon Alderson

Dr. Keanon Alderson, professor of business, gave presentations on Family Business Opportunities and Challenges and Solutions to Common Family Business Challenges. Alderson, director of the CBU Family Business Center, presented eight times throughout Riverside County in January. They were provided as part of a grant by the Riverside County Office of Economic Development.

Dawn Carter

Dawn Carter, industry liaison for the Dr. Robert K. Jabs School of Business, participated as a discussant in the 12^th Annual Korean Studies Institute Graduate Symposium at University of Southern California on Feb. 8. She reviewed two papers relating to Education and Culture from Ph.D. students in UCLA’s Asian Languages and Cultures program.

Stephanie Arjona

Stephanie Arjona, transcript and records analyst II, was selected as a member for the Client Advisory Board (CAB) for CollegeSource, a higher education technology company whose products focus on transfer evaluation and articulation, degree audit and academic planning. CAB members represent the CollegeSource user community, providing critical input and commentary on company goals, policies, product development and more. Arjona began the two-year term in January.

CBU students at Port of LA

Nineteen students in the industrial-organizational psychology graduate program and the undergrad I-O concentration went to the Port of LA and LAPD for a tour on Jan. 25. They learned about employment opportunities at LAPD and the LA Port, employment and recruiting challenges, as well as workplace culture.
