Professional Accolades

Dr. Abby Cole
Dr. Abby Cole, adjunct professor of communication studies, graduated with her Doctor of Philosophy, Arts, Technology and Emerging Communication from the University of Texas, Dallas. Her dissertation drew on journalism history and feminist theory to present the case for a reconfigured praxis during the historical shift for democracy, culture and society.

Christine Balling
Christine Balling, senior student accounts counselor, was named employee of the month for June. Her nomination included the following statements: “Christine has a heart for helping students and families have the best experience at CBU. She is self-motivated and her care for students is reflected in the quality of her work. Her compassion and empathy for others are a testament to her faith and dedication to CBU’s mission.”

In May, Dr. Stacy Meyer, associate dean of the school of education, Deborah Roberts, adjunct professor of education, and Kirk Skorpanich, adjunct professor of education, took a group of students from the School of Education to Malawi, Africa. The group supported SAFE Africa and its ministry, Why Wait. The ministry’s biblical life skills curriculum teaches Godly character and helps students build a strong foundation for a life of moral integrity and positive influence.

Campus News
From June 12-21, the Collinsworth School of Performing Arts will showcase the annual Courtyard Shakespeare Festival. The two productions the festival will feature include Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Sondheim and Lapine’s Into the Woods. Tickets can be purchased for one production only, or a combination of both!

The summer Performing Arts Camps kick off on June 22. This year, the school will offer five camps throughout the year including band/jazz, choir, strings, junior high theatre and high school theatre. Open to junior high and high school students, these camps will foster growth in young musicians while building a tradition of music appreciation. Visit calbaptist.edu/sopacamps to register.

Jason Quan, director of strength and conditioning, is hosting a Speed Agility Strength Camp June 2 to July 2. The camp is for middle and high school boys and girls who want to improve their speed and agility in any sport. The camp will happen in CBU’s Athletic Performance Center located in the Recreation Center.
