Dirk Dallas, associate professor of graphic design, had work featured in a new book Tracing the Line: The Art of Drawing Machines and Pen Plotters (Vetro), which showcased the works of 100 contemporary artists who use drawing machines in their practice.
Dr. Chris Morgan, dean of the School of Christian Ministries, co-authored Salvation (B&H Academic, 2024). The book is part of the Theology for the People of God series, co-edited by Morgan.

The College Bigs program is a volunteer mentorship opportunity that connects college students from California Baptist University, University of California, Riverside and La Sierra University with local high school students. The panel covered topics like exploring majors, understanding graduation requirements, navigating the transition from high school to college and the college experience.

Professional Accolades
Christopher Kern, associate professor of photography, was selected as a juror for the 2023 AIAIC Architecture Photography Competition. This competition was administered by Keelan Kaiser, professor of architecture and interim executive director of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) - Inland California.
Joel Balzun, adjunct professor of music, made his debut with the Los Angeles Opera as the Sergeant in The Barber of Seville, conducted by Louis Lohraseb and directed by Rob Ashford on Oct. 21-Nov. 12. Additionally, he was a finalist in the Vincerò World Opera Competition, held in Verona, Italy, in December.
Christine Lee Smith, lecturer of photography, has two photographs – Untitled and I Can’t Breathe – in the exhibit Ways of Seeing at the Earl & Virginia Green Gallery at Biola University Jan. 16-Feb. 16.
Student Highlights
Jacob Singhavong, a Master’s in Social Work student, published a book, Sticky Rice for Lunch (Dec. 2).
Zackary Littman and Ken Schemmer, MS sport and performance psychology students, received the Humility and Grit Community Appreciation Award on Dec. 15 from the Riverside Police Department for their work as interns with the department’s Explorers Program in 2023. The Explorers engaged in several mental skills workshops designed by CBU’s sport and performance students that touched on topics such as self-confidence, team communication, understanding body language, leadership, and mindfulness. Other interns with the Explorers were Teresa Garcia, Matthew Mascio, Elizabeth Knof and Heather Humes.
